The ambassador of China to Uganda H.E Zheng Zhuqiang says that the government of China is taking steps to address concerns of harrassment and mistreatment of Ugandan nationals in  China. This was during a meeting held with the Minister of foreign affairs, Sam Kuteesa.

The press statement published by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, today (11th April 2020) says:

The Minister of Foreign Affairs Hon Sam Kutesa today Saturday 11th April 2020 met with the Ambassador of China to Uganda His Excellency Zheng Zhuqiang on the matter regarding situation of Ugandans in China.

The Minister conveyed the serious concern of the Government of Uganda on the harassment and mistreatment of its nationals. He called on Government of China to urgently intervene and address the plight of Ugandans in China.

The Ambassador assured the Minister that China values its relationship with Uganda and other African countries. He said that the Government was taking steps to address the matter and undertook to take the concerns of the Government of Uganda with the relevant authorities in China”.

The meeting was attended by the Permanent Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Amb Patrick Mugoya and Uganda’s Ambassador to China, Dr Crispus Kiyonga. The meeting follows Ugandan voices requesting the Uganda government to look into the matter of bringing back home Ugandans who were caught up in China by the lock down.

There have been reports of segregation by Chinese nationals where Africans have been denied essential services targeting them as carriers of the Covi-19 disease.

There have been serious reports on most media channels including government owned Bukedde TV about the harassment of not only Ugandans but all Africans who are still in China. According to some Ugandans who are still stuck in China, the Chinese people threaten Africans and at times chase them away from public places including trains and buses.

Some Ugandans have reported that they were thrown out of the residential units without clear reasons. In the southern Chinese city of Guangzou, Africans have been evicted from their homes by landlords. Africans are turned away from accommodation units including history.

We have also been reliably informed that there are “unconfirmed reports” that blacks were targets for Corona Virus Vaccination tests. Africans have also been targets for random testing for Covid-19, arbitrary quarantines and mass coronavirus testing as the country tries to step up their fight against imported infections.

The CNN has interviewed several Africans who have also reported the same treatment from the Chinese.

There is an unknown number of Ugandans studying or working in China. There is an estimated 800 Ugandan students in China, with 105 students in Wuhan, a city most affected by the virus outbreak.

Eddy Kenzo Sings Song About Agonizing 2020 (Tweni tweni)

0

The year 2020 will forever be remembered in history as one of the most miserable years not only in Uganda but globally. The year was highly welcomed in style which even saw people christening it a stylish name of ”tweni tweni” but as of now people are in regrets of it already, due to the corona virus pandemic.

The corona virus pandemic has really caused great harm to the world. In Uganda Eddy Kenzo is one of the most affected people with this pandemic virus because it led to the amputation of his long-awaited festival and left him swimming in losses as he had already paid for the venue, adverts and visas for the international artists who were to attend his festival.

This thus forced the ‘sitya loss’ hit maker to hit studio and record a song about this disconsolate year (2020) in a song he dubbed ”tweni tweni”, 2020. In the song Eddy Kenzo asks 2020 to leave the world in peace because it has destructed everything yet it found us in total peace.

He further sings that the year was welcomed in peace and praises but it has instead turned too problematic to an extent that it has forced people to leave their work and just staying indoors 24/7. Listen to this doleful song from Eddy Kenzo dubbed ”tweni tweni”.

The ministry also announced that 15 more such patients would be released on Sunday or Monday following their impressive response to treatment. Uganda has not yet registered any COVID-19 death despite having confirmed & managing 53 cases.

The three patients have been discharged Saturday from Entebbe Grade B Hospital at an event presided over by the Prime Minister Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda.

“The patients we are discharging today have spent 21 days in the hospital. It takes time for the viral load to go down,” Dr Jane Ruth Aceng, the minister of health said.

“In a special way, I want to say a big thank you to the health workers who manage the COVID-19 suspected and confirmed cases. You are our real heroes. Without you, we cannot get through this battle. Thank you and God bless you,” Dr Aceng added.

Dr. Henry Mwebesa, the director general health services at MoH said discharged patients were being treated using hydroxychloroquine and erythromycin medicine.

Dr Diana Atwine, the permanent secretary MoH clarified that the released patient ‘are not carriers and are safe to return to their homes.’

“This means that the virus has been eliminated from their bodies and are not infecting anybody. We can’t release anyone who can infect others,” she explained.

Uganda has so far confirmed 53 COVID-19 cases with not a single death recorded.

The health ministry continues to appeal to Ugandans to live by the guidelines of social distancing, washing hands with soap and not touching their faces in order to infect each other with the virus.

Also, the public is encouraged to report any suspected case to the authorities for intervention and clinical management.

“Do Not Be Afraid”- Archbishop Kazimba Tells Ugandans

Archbishop Kazimba

The Good Friday has been celebrated lowly in Uganda due to the Corona Virus. The newly consecrated archbishop of the Anglican church in Uganda, Dr. Kazimba Mugalu has urged Ugandans not be afraid!

Do not be afraid, even in the face of coronavirus, an imminent threat to the human race, the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda the Most Rev. Samuel Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu has told Christians.

His message, delivered in commemoration of Jesus Christ’s crucifixion made reference to scriptures from the Biblical book of Mathew, where two accounts of Jesus’ resurrection used the same statement amid terrifying events of the day.

The first reference is based on an interaction between an Angel, Mary Magdalene and another Mary who went to see the tomb, where Jesus was buried. However, they were suddenly greeted by an earthquake as an Angel descended from heaven and, rolled away the stone.

The Archbishop noted that this year’s Easter is very unique since there is no gathering together to celebrate Jesus’ victory over death. But, he added, that the Church continues to seek God’s face to intervene in the current situation and heal the land from locusts, diseases, all forms of suffering and death, as a result of coronavirus disease.

He added that all Church of Uganda dioceses will hold a massive general Thanksgiving, on the first Sunday after all restrictions on Church, gatherings are lifted.

Stop Pressurizing Musicians To Donate During Lockdown – Kenzo

0

The Big Talent Boss, Eddy Kenzo, has come out to defend himself and his fellow Uganda musicians as to why they don’t give back to their fans. The ‘tweyagale’ hit maker laments that it is evident that he has lost a lot of money due to this corona virus pandemic and so people should stop pressurizing him to donate as he is really badly off, financially.

The singer claims that he had already paid 30 Million Uganda shillings for the venue (Kololo Airstrip) where his much-anticipated ”Eddy Kenzo festival” was to take place from and that he had also paid visa for all the international artists who were to attend his festival as well as paying for the several adverts, thus swimming in losses now.

The singer also defends the other musicians who have not donated saying that they really go through a lot of difficulties to compose the songs that the fans keep on enjoying every second but earn less which has made them also to suffer in this quarantine as some don’t have even a single coin to buy what to eat. He says that music is really very fundamental in this everyday life but it’s a pity that the people making that music are really broke and therefore they have no money to give back to the people.

Eddy Kenzo concluded by saying that it’s largely the responsibility of politicians to help people during this trying time because they even earn a lot of money other than Ugandans pressurizing the musicians.

Chameleone and Brothers Fight, They’re Nursing Wounds

The musical Mayanja family is very much known for its controversies besides being musically talented. The family has produced very many Uganda music stars led by Jose Chameleone who has went on to mentor his young siblings likes of Weasel (one half of the popular defunct Radio and Weasel duo), Pallaso, and the Late AK 47.

However, the family also consists of other members including their elder brother ‘Henry Kasozi’ and Humphrey Mayanja along with the two sisters; Nabukeera Josephine and Nalwanga Juliet, the former is the oldest child of Chameleone’s father ‘Gerald Mayanja’ whom he produced in his first relationship before meeting Chameleone’s mother.

Meanwhile, on the 8th of March 2020 (Wednesday) night it’s alleged that Pallaso and his older brother Henry Kasozi were chilling and having fun at the latter’s friend known as Mimi and they were later on joined by Jose Chameleone and Weasel who later went on to visit Chameleone’s manager, Bijou, at her place.

It is claimed that the Mayanja brothers first had fun from there, at Bijou’s place, – eating, drinking and talking about various issues. While talking, after getting drunk, it is alleged that Weasel insulted Pallaso that he has spent a lot of time in the USA but he’s so broke to an extent that he has no single land title well as him (Weasel) stays in a bungalow which didn’t go well with the ‘Akomelerwe’ hit singer hence beating him seriously.

It is also said that Weasel did not only insult Pallaso but also his older brother ‘Henry’ – the proprietor of Fling Fire clothing label, hence also joining Pallaso in disciplining Weasel with serious punches. Jose Chameleone entered in to intervene the issue and to save Weasel hence the squiffy Pallaso punching him as well.

Later, Weasel expressed his anger on his instagram account where he posted a video of him burning one of the t-shirts made by the Fling Fire Clothing Label of his brother, Henry Kasozi. ‘’I don’t deal with dirty mind, #I don’t buy it #flingfire I love #Uganda but not de devils in it #stayhome’’, captioned Weasel.

Jose Chameleone commented on Weasel’s post and advised him to pray a lot as the devil is a liar in which Weasel replied him that they need to pray for their brothers because they are so evil. ‘’Pray, pray, and pray!!! The devil is a liar!!!’’, said Chameleone. ‘’We need to pray for them so evil’’, replied Weasel.

Political Change in Uganda: Reality or a Hoax?

0
Yoweri Kaguta Museveni

The only thing we learn from Uganda’s political history here is that we never learn anything from it. Anyone simply humming hope, justice, democracy and all those utopian ideas can easily buy off the souls of Ugandans in the blink of an eye.

In January next year, close to 17.7 million Ugandans will go to the polls to choose it’s next leaders according to the recently launched 2021 Electoral Road Map by the Electoral Commission at their offices in Kampala. Speaking at a media briefing on the then on- going voter Registration process on the 26th of November last year, the leader of the People Power political pressure group said, “As we declared early this year that I will be running for president to end President Museveni’s dictatorship, I will be going across the country to consult about the same “. Implicit in this statement and many others casually uttered by many Ugandan politicians is the belief that Museveni and his government are the major cause of all Ugandan woes.

The biggest weakness of these politicians and their cheerleaders is the belief that our much needed economic and political change is a natural condition that grows automatically when tyrannical governments are overthrown. A lot of historic experience has however shown us that this is not always true. All too often, it has led to yet another and in some cases, worse tyranny. No sane Ugandan would need a political philosopher to point out the short comings of  this regime. In fact, if Uganda had gone to the polls in May 2019, President Museveni would score a paltry 32% of the vote which is well below the 50% plus one vote that a presidential aspirant requires to win an election outright in Uganda according to a 2019 poll conducted by Research World International.

Museveni in 1980 went to the bush and led a 5 year protracted war that saw countless lives and property lost simply because he promised o deliver this country from a supposed dictatorship and restore the dignity of the citizens. He at the  time provided a very convincing argument that Africa’s is its leaders that take too long in power and assume that they have all the solutions to their countries’ problems. His constants manipulation of the constitution to retain a strong grip on power has not dine much to differentiate him from these leaders he so passionately condemned in his earlier days.

Amin didn’t disappoint in the same regard. He in 1971 drove into the streets of Kampala flagged by the naive citizens who in him saw their long awaited Messiah. He might have seen in him that too! 8 years into  his reign, the script was littered with a number of missing citizens, state brutality, economic collapse among others. Obote too came preaching the same gospel of liberation and transformation only to commit the same atrocities and maybe even in some cases, worse than his predecessors.

The only thing we learn from Uganda’s political history here is that we never learn anything from it. Anyone simply humming hope, justice, democracy and all those utopian ideas can easily buy off the souls of Ugandans in the blink of an eye.

We as Ugandans have been shown as the kind that never questions the motives in a time we believe a political messiah is holding a lantern at the mountain top ready to lead us to a land of democracy and economic prosperity. This begs a question: Might we as Ugandans, after 34 years, found ourselves at a point where we have to question the motives of our change harbingers or whether their promises are realistic or shall we do history a favour and reincarnate the mistakes of our forefathers – put into power those that will drag this country further down the drain?
