Family sources noted that Mugerwa passed away on Thursday afternoon at Mulago National Referral Hospital after developing breathing complications.  At the time of his death, he was the Chancellor of Ndejje University, a private Christian university based in Luwero District.

KCCA Fc 3-1 As Kigali. Brian Aheebwa 1′, 36′, 77′ | Hakizimana Muhadjiri (P)49′ (3-3 aggregates)

Kampala Capital City Authority Football Club ( KCCA FC) has been eliminated out of the CAF Confederation Cup this is after they defeated Rwandese giants AS Kigali 3-1 in the second leg game of the CAF Confederation Cup first round second at St Mary’s stadium, Kitende but were eliminated on away goals rule after 3-3 aggregate scoreline over the two legs

KCCA Fc lost the first leg 2-0 without even Kicking the ball, KCCA got the perfect start they wished for as Brian Aheebwa capitalized on awful defending from the As Kigali backline to place the ball into the bottom right corner to give the Kasasiro Boys an early game’s lead and went on to score a hattrick.

The visitors pushed on until in the 49th minute when they got the important goal they all wanted through Hakizimana Muhadjiri’s penalty after defender Musa Ramathan fouled Aboubakar Lawal in the forbidden area.

KCCA tried to get the fourth goal which would help them progress to next round but Baate was brilliant, denying both Aheebwa and Anaku on multiple occasions.

Bebe Cool Lists Best 2020 Ugandan Musicians

0

Bebe Cool has come up with his list of 2020 best artists and Malamu has emerged the winning song! Here is a word by word commentary of Bebe Cool and the rating of each artist during 2020,  year that was marred by the Covid 19 Pandemic.

PIUS MAYANJA aka Pallaso

Pallaso appears on the Bebe Cool list this time as a liked and loved fella, unlike previously when his character and music were unlikable. Pallaso had a tough entry in the music Industry due to the existence of his two elder brothers, Jose Chameleone and Weasel.
Expectations were high for Pallaso because of his brother’s exploits in the music industry. This young man has proved tough in the last five years and has finally earned my respect with “MALAMU” and I’m now sure his star will continue to rise. By the way it’s the only song I stand up and dance to whenever it plays.

ERIC OPOKA alias EeZZY

A Ugandan talent who hit a jackpot rather unexpectedly with his “TUMBIZA SOUND” song.
To many, it’s the song of the year. Eezzy easily makes it to the Bebe Cool list. I’m proud to say that this young man deserves all the support he can get from the entertainment gurus because he comes from the northern part of Uganda. This alone will inspire other upcountry musicians.

Artists that live out of the mainstream entertainment city of Kampala think it’s impossible to break barriers. Well,  Eezzy did.
His story reminds Kampala artists and producers to respect musicians from other regions!

TADDEO MAYEGA alias ZEX Bilangilangi,
A Fire Base ‘criminal’, with “RATATA and NALINDA”, Zex has undoubtedly been the dancehall king of 2020. For sure this fellow has a special talent and I’m betting on him to maintain his steady progress come 2021 because the gods favour him with good attitude and proper education!! For sure, Zex has SECURED HIS FUTURE. 🤪

SHEEBA KARUNGI alias SHEEBAH
The female GOAT. With “NAKYUKA and KYOLINA OMANYA remix, Sheebah proves to be the best female artist in Uganda. On a lighter side, she requested to be included on the list. She didn’t have to anyway. Her works are legit.

SSEBUNYA ALPA alias MUDRA
His song MUYAAYU is up there as one of the very best in 2020. He is a special talent. I have heard he writes songs for big artists like Cindy, Karol Kasita and Vinka, and still comes out with a song bigger than the ones he sells to his clients. What a real Muyaayu! Kudos, anyway.

CAROL NAMULINDWA alias KAROLE KASITA
A former member of the music duo Cash O2, Karole Kasita bounces back on the Bebe Cool list with her club banger “BALANCE”.
I like her attitude and stage performance!

B2C aka The Kampala Boyz
Many argue that these boys can’t survive on their own. That they thrive on collabos with other artists. Well, that school of thought is null and void.

This time they have proved critics wrong with “MUNDAAWO”. It was one of my best songs during the lockdown, though I expect more from them considering their numbers.

NAKANWAGI WINFRED alias WINNIE NWAGI
The female version of Bebe Cool. I like her ‘I do as I please, I don’t care if I have holes on my bum’ attitude. As usual, Nwagi makes it to the Bebe Cool list, with “JANGU” and “KWATTA ESSIMU”.
Nwagi has proved single mothers can hustle their way to the top in their respective careers and that they deserve respect. I’m proud of you, WINNIE.

EDIRISA MUSUUZA alias EDDY KENZO
Kenzo returns on the list with “TWEYAGALE”. It was a big club banger until Covid-19 in March!
His works speak for themselves.

KWESIGA GEORGE alias QUEX
Quex makes it on the list from nowhere with “KACUMBALI”. This song is really big and I mean Big. Congs young man. It’s not easy to make it to this list!

ZAWEDDE PRISCILLA alias AZAWI
My Quinamino makes it to the list this year with “LO-FIT” and “REPEAT IT”. Azawi has not let people who make fun of her looks affect her. She’s focused on her strongest points; her sweet voice and musical writing skills.

I like the fact that she’s a down to earth and easy to work with female artist. Kudos to Swangz Avenue for identifying this young immense talent!

YOZEFU MAYANJA alias JOSE CHAMELEONE
The “LORD MAYOR” makes it to the list with “BALIWA and “KIGWA LEERO”. Top songs. Considering his political engagements, you would expect him to totally fade out of the music business like the other guy, but Chameleone still surprises. Nuff respect, mate!

VERONICA LUJJA alias VINKA
Vinka bounces back on the list with “LOVE PANIC” but I nearly dropped her off the list.
Vinka needs to call upon her gods to restart their work. In case you forgot to pay them, please pay them now. Good talent but you got to step up because of the tough competition around you.

OJJAMBO ANDREW alias DADDY ANDRE
One of the most talented producers without a doubt. Andre surely couldn’t miss on the list.
With many other productions for other artists, the producer makes it with “TUGENDE MU-CHURCH”.  No doubt a good talent!

HERBERT KITYAMUWEESI aka Crysto Panda
The energetic TV personality recovered from the death of his baby and outed major songs “EBILUMA ABAYAYE” and “KYOYINA OMANYA”. For Panda, 2021 will be a tougher year. He has to prove if he has the capability to maintain the high standards he’s set!

‘NAMUKWAYA DIANA alias SPICE DIANA
Spice Diana has consistently made it on the list. This is her third year in a row. Her jams “KWATTA WANO” and “KOKONYA” featuring Tanzanian Harmonize are sweet songs to the ear.
So far so good. Job well done.

MOSES SSALI aka BEBE COOL
The “UNDISPUTED” BEBE COOL. With “WAKAYIMA” and “FEELING” featuring Nigerian Rudebwoy, this year registers as an average year musically for me. Granted. But my role in the fight against the deadly Covid-19 cannot go unmentioned.

The awareness song, Corona Distance, brought together some of Uganda’s top musicians.
The song remix was even better as it featured artists from various regions with each singing in their local languages meaning the message reached a wider populace.

Nonetheless, I still top Uganda’s showbiz industry in Africa as I featured in the continental Guinness Football Challenge alongside Rio Ferdinand among others. I also recently trended at number one in Africa  for you know why…

NOTE: I cannot end the list without mentioning all the musicians (including Dj Bobi Wyne) who recorded Coronavirus songs. Great job they did.

Muhoozi Kainerugaba

Uganda Genocide: What Do We Know About Genocide?

0
Luweero Skulls

The term genocide was coined by Raphael Lemkin in 1944. He wrote that genocide is “the coordinated plan of different actions aiming at the destruction of essential foundations of the life of national groups with the aim of annihilating the groups themselves. The objectives of such a plan would be the disintegration of the political and economic institutions of culture, language, national feelings, religion, economic existence, of national groups and the destruction of the personal security, liberty, health, dignity, and even the lives of the individuals belonging to such groups. Genocide is directed against the national group as an entity, and the actions involved are directed against individuals, not in their individual capacity, but as members of the national group”(Samuel Totten et al., 2004).

2. In October 1946, a few days after the Nuremberg Tribunal judgment was announced, Cuba, India, Panama and Saudi Arabia demanded that the UN General Assembly correct the limitations on the concept of crimes against humanity. The Nuremberg Trials (1945-46) and the Tokyo Trial (1946) crimes against humanity were included only to the extent they were connected to the war.

3. The Nuremberg Trials and the Tokyo Trial set a new procedure in international law: no one, whether a ruler, a public official, or a private individual, was immune from punishment for war crimes. These crimes included crimes against peace – namely, planning, initiating and waging of wars of aggression in violation of international treaties and agreements, crimes against humanity – extermination, deportations, and genocide; war crimes etc.

4. The UN General Assembly adopted in December 1946 a Resolution 96(a) on the crime of genocide. The resolution mandated the United Nations to draft a treaty on genocide.

5. UN Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the crime of Genocide was adopted unanimously by the UN General Assembly on December 9 1948 as the first human rights treaty, a day before the ratification of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The Convention on Genocide was ratified in 1951. The Convention is a compromise document.

6. Article I – The contracting parties confirm that genocide, whether committed in time of war or in time of peace, is a crime under international law which they undertake to prevent and to punish.

7. In the present Convention, genocide means any of the following acts committed with the intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group as such:

(a)Killing members of the group;
(b)Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group;
(c) Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part;
(d)Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group;
(e) Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group.

Article III – The following acts shall be punishable:
(a)Genocide;
(b)Conspiring to commit genocide;
(c)Direct and public incitement to commit genocide; attempt to commit genocide;
(d)Complicity in genocide.

Article IV – Persons committing genocide or any of the other acts enumerated in article III shall be punished, whether they are constitutionally responsible rulers, public officials, or private individuals.

The word genocide refers to the destruction of a culture as well as the physical elimination of people (A. Belden Fields 2003) in whole or in part and the taking away of wealth of victims of genocide. The Swiss banks are revealed to have accepted and kept wealth stolen by the Nazis from their Jewish victims (A. Belden Fields 2003).
In some cases like Burundi and East Timor the world pretended not to know or knew very little. “For a long time that was the case with East Timor, where it is estimated that one-third of the population had been killed by the Indonesian military from 1975 to 1999, where there was torture and forced sterilization of women, and where the indigenous language was forbidden (a genocidal measure to destroy a people’s culture and identity). In other cases, there is even active complicity of one or more Western democracies…”(A. Belden Fields 2003).

Diverse strategies are used to carry out genocide. It should be noted that mass killing or physical liquidation is one of many strategies. Genocidal strategies may be direct or indirect, “including economic or biological subjugation”. They may include “killing of the elites (i.e. elicitide); elimination of national (racial, ethnic) culture and religious life with the intent of ‘denationalization’ and ‘prevention of normal family life’ … breaking the linkage between reproduction and socialization of children in the family or group of origin … preventing births within a group”
A consensus exists that genocide is committed with intent to destroy, is structural and systematic, deliberate and organized, sustained and involves a series of purposeful actions. Jack Nusan Porter (1982) wrote that genocide is the deliberate destruction in whole or in part, by government or its agents, of a racial, sexual, religious, tribal or political minority. It can involve not only mass murder, but also starvation, forced deportation, and political, economic and biological subjugation. Genocide involved ideology, technology and bureaucracy/organization. Yehuda Bauer (1984) mentions selective mass murder of elites or parts of the population and the intention to denationalization, enslavement and destruction of economic life (Adam Jones 2006).

Genocide in Uganda:

Some have described the wars, destruction of property or grabbing there of in Luwero Triangle, northern and eastern regions as genocide which has continued after the conflicts ended. Using the information provided above is it possible to establish a concrete case so that at least we can stop its continuation into the future and spread to or intensification in other regions? Apart from loss of lives are there other cases like loss of properties say land taken over from survivors using different means? For example, what happened to the properties like buildings in towns and money of the victims in the banks at home and possibly abroad? Did the survivors reclaim them? If not, why not?

The genocide convention is about prevention and punishment of those involved as described above. What we have learned is that genocide is more than merely destroying a targeted group in a time of conflict. It includes destroying a culture of a group that loses identity. It involves impoverishing and rendering a group powerless and voiceless through reducing its population growth, scattering it people around and taking its properties especially land. Genocide can happen silently in time of peace and can take a long time to achieve. Where do we stand in Uganda where allegations of genocide have been made?

Bobi Wine’s Group Will Soon be Defeated – Museveni

0
Yoweri Kaguta Museveni

President Yoweri Museveni has said the supporters of National Unity Platform principal, Robert Kyagulanyi (Bobi Wine) will soon be defeated .

Speaking to NRM leaders in Hoima Museveni insisted that Kyagulanyi is enjoying backing from foreigners whom he said want to destabilize the country but warned he can’t allow this to happen.

“I know Kyagulanyi and the fools supporting him who don’t know Uganda very well. These include foreigners and others who are here but I know all them. I know that this one is a fool and the other one,”Museveni said.

“They found our children (youths) here and asked them to cause chaos in Uganda just like they did in Libya, Sudan and Zimbabwe not knowing we are a different cup of tea. Those people lit fire on roads not knowing they were spoiling our tarmac,”Museveni said.

The President told the ruling party leaders that Kyagulanyi’s group and their “homosexual supporters” preached hate and riots to youths in several towns in Uganda and this culminated into last month’s protests after the NUP presidential candidate’s arrest by police.

He however insisted that the group tasted a dose of their own medicine when they participated in protests.

“They tried to disrupt Kampala and the army came in. They thought it was going to be like other countries but the army gave them the medicine they wanted. The other time I called Kampala to find out how the city was and I was told even if you abandon a yellow t-shirt, no one touches it because it is hot. No one will destabilize Kampala.”

According to Museveni, the youths are good people but were only misled by Kyagulanyi’s group, adding that he will slowly by slowly work behind the curtains to return them home.

“Those people who had gone to NUP are good. Some of them went to NUP because you(NRM leaders) ignored them. You don’t know how to work with young people. The many mistakes by the old people forced them to leave but I want you to talk to them well to return.”

“I will capture Kyagulanyi’s group , you just wait. I work underground but I will finish them. As you are up shouting hooray, I am working underground,” he noted.
