KCAA Wants to Buy USAFI Market Back!

0

KCCA is full of surprises. Now Madam Jenifer Musisi is asking for money from Parliament to purchase USAFI market.

Brief background

USAFI Market was initially sold by KCCA at 110 Million

The land where Usafi is currently located belonged to KCCA. In 2011 KCCA sold it to an individual (who are believed to be Muhhamed Nsereko and his brother) at 110 millions shillings. This individual again hired the above land to KCCA and they built there the popular Usafi market.

Today KCCA wants to buy Usafi market at 43.75bn shillings. What a figure!!! That was the offer price. claiming that 37.5bn was the Capital investment and 5.625bn is return on Investment. So this means that they used 37.5bn to construct Usafi.

When we look at Wandegeya market the technical head says they used 6bn to construct Wandegeya market.
Really what is the level of Usafi to have consumed 37.5bn shillings

Pro-Gay Activists Lose Rights Case to Government

Gay Activists in Uganda

The High Court in Kampala Monday threw out a case against the Ethics and Integrity minister, Rev Father Simon Lokodo, that had been filed by gay activists after he stormed into a conference hall and closed their meeting in Entebbe in 2012.

Presiding judge Steven Musota ruled that the minister acted in public interest to protect the morals values of the society since he had told court that the participants in the meeting were distributing homosexual literature intended to train and recruit others into the vice.

Justice Musota dismissed the case with costs to the Attorney General adding that the gay activists cannot plead an infringement to their rights since they were promoting illegal acts of homosexuality by distributing same sex literature.

The judge also ordered the activists to pay damages to Lokodo for wrongly dragging him to court yet he was performing within his official capacity.

He further added that the Constitution permits a limitation to the enjoyment of human rights if they prejudice the rights of other individuals.

The case arose in February in 2012, at Imperial Resort Beach Hotel, Entebbe when Minister Lokodo halted a workshop by gays and activists claiming they had no moral standard to hold such a workshop whose agenda was unknown to government.

The minister had been sued by Jacqueline Kasha Nabagesera, Julian Pepe Onziema, Frank Mugisha and Geoffrey Ogwaro.

They, among others, accused the minister of infringing on their constitutional rights when he closed their two –week workshop.

The ruling comes four months after President Museveni assented to the anti-homosexuality law. According to the Anti-homosexuality Act 2014, a person who purports to contract a marriage with another person of the same sex, commits the offence of homosexuality and shall be liable, on conviction, to imprisonment up to life.

It’s also now an offence to distribute homosexual literature.

DJ Micheal, Chameleon Make Peace After Five Year Fight

Tubonge star, Jose Chameleon has yet again buried his hatchet with another singer thanks to Legendary Ugandan Ragga artist Ragga Dee.

Chameleon was over the weekend re-united with his former Leon Island crew member and nemesis, DJ Micheal by the Balalu singer, Ragga Dee.

Ragga Dee, who has had over two beef-free decades in the Uganda music industry talked to the bickering musicians and his efforts and were worthy after the singers agreed to forget their past and think about the future of the industry.

In 2009, Chameleon fell out with Dj Micheal, formerly a member of Leon Island, managed by the former after a steamy verbal exchange in which the singers almost exchanged blows.

The singers were reportedly fighting over a one Sherry Adyeri, popularly known as Maama Cheri, owner of Kabalagala based nightspot, Cheri Cheri.

They were all alleged to be in a relationship with Sherry but the situation soured after DJ Micheal’s weekly performance was halted and replaced with Chameleon’s.

Micheal unhappy with the decision has since then released two songs Kilimululu and Fake doctor, all hitting at Chameleon.

This is Chameleon’s reconciliation with a biggest Ugandan singer follows last year’s re-union with the GoodLyfe duo, Mowzey Radio and Weasle.

Radio and Weasle just like Micheal, were never looking eye to eye with their former boss since their departure from Leon Island crew.

Meanwhile the reconciliation comes at a good time given the fact that Chameleon is trying to re-unite his warring young brothers, Weasle and Pallaso as this will act as an example to them.

MPigs Youth: Our Work Is Not Yet Done

Yellow Pigs at Uganda Parliament

The Jobless Brotherhood of Uganda who are now known as the MPigs Youth for snucking two piglets in parliament marked MPigs said that they work is not yet done.

Norman Tumuhimbise and Robert Mayanja who are member of this group were arrested for the stunt, and released several weeks later on bail. The pair has since been re-arrested for illegal assembly under Uganda’s Public Order Management Act.

The brotherhood that says represents millions of desperate and unemployed Uganda youth runs on a rally cry that goes “Don’t lead us into temptation,” that carries the veiled threat of violence.

On June 17, the two young men snuck two piglets, painted yellow, wearing signs saying “M-Pigs,” the piglets managed to get as far as the parliamentary chambers before being stopped by police. The pigs, says Tumuhimbise, are symbols of political corruption and greed.

“Besides a hyena, some other most greedy animal is a pig. When it gets hungry and greedy, it just eats its piglets,” he said. “These MPs are eating us alive. We have those of us who read Animal Farm. In this country we have so many Napoleons and Snowballs now, either in opposition or in government. These are national M-Pigs who are sitting in that house.”

The piglets were confiscated as evidence. Police later claimed they were testing the animals for terrorism-related material and after were supposed to be sold at an auction though the young men want their pigs back.

“These are our pigs. This is our envelope where we always package our message. These are our delivery boys, and by the way they did us proud, because they delivered the message very well. I think they deserve another turn,” said Tumuhimbise.

Tumuhimbise and Mayanja say that despite the charges against them, their activism is far from over. Their next step, they say, will be to hold a youth convention in Kampala.

Nakasero Hospital Installs 128-Slice CT Scanner, Spots Tumors In Seconds

Nakasero CT Scanner

A new 128-Slice Computed Tomography (CT) scanner from Siemens used for radiological diagnosis has been installed at Nakasero Hospital, Kampala.

This machine has the ability to quickly and non-invasively spot small tumors, in a check on the lungs for example, or plaque in the case of cardiovascular disease.

Its quick mechanism has made it a preferred option for diagnosis by an increasing number of physicians.

According to a post by Nakasero hospital, this 128-Slice CT scanner is the latest generation in a line of CT scanners and is revolutionizing non-invasive diagnosis.

“This machine can scan the whole body in seconds and provide incredibly sharp 3D images of any organ.”

It is currently one of the most important methods of radio-logical diagnosis.

“It delivers non-superimposed, cross-sectional images of the body, which can show smaller contrast differences than conventional X-ray images. This allows better visualization of specific differently structured soft-tissue regions, for example, which could otherwise not be visualized satisfactorily.”
This machine has the capacity to study the beating heart and provide the first clear non-invasive images of the heart and its major vessels. The scans can also be timed to use only images gathered between contractions, so that the heart and its vessels can be seen without the blurring caused by motion.
The 128-Slice CT-Scanner can also used for cancer diagnosis and treatment. The speed and precision of this scanner not only improves the image quality, but also allows us to look at dynamic processes.

“Instead of just monitoring changes in tumor size, we can watch the perfusion of a contrast agent as it moves toward, around and through a tumor. This can provide an early view of how a patient is responding to therapy.”

This scan equipment can detect common heart attack systems, including warning signs, chest discomfort, upper body pain, stomach pain, shortness of breath, anxiety, light headedness, sweating, nausea and vomiting, breast cancer, cervical cancer, colon and rectal cancer, prostate cancer and lung cancer.

Former pro boxing champ Kassim Ouma, who has been in news of recent after being arrested over battery is back in the Uganda.

The former IBF junior middleweight champion and singer Juliana’s boyfriend Wednesday surprised revelers when he turned up at Club Amnesia.

Dressed in all black; shirt and a pair of trousers and shoes, Ouma made it to the club with his good, Bobi Wine and they were booked it the VIP section.

The crowd hadn’t recorgnised him at first but after DJ announcing the boxer’s presence in the club, there was a steer with everybody looking in all corners just to have a glimpse of the boxing champion.

There were wild screams and clapping from all corners but unfortunately, after only a few minutes, he left the ordinary section where majority of people were and headed for the VIP.

Uganda depressed in April after the arrest of Ouma in Los Angeles after allegedly knocking out a man who made gay advances towards him.

Ouma was born in Gulu, Uganda and left the country in the late 1990s after serving in the National Resistance Army for over five years.

This was after he had been selected to be part of the Ugandan National Boxing Amateur team trip to the United States and he opted to stay behind after the competition.

It was, however, his International Boxing Federation (IBF) Junior Middleweight world title triumph in 2006 that ushered him in Uganda’s public eye.

Ouma is a former champion and top-level contender in the Light Middleweight Division. He has quality wins against Jason Papillion, Juan Carlos Candelo and Verno Phillips, his second win against whom earned him the IBFLight Middleweight title.

He successfully defended his championship with a twelve round unanimous decision against Kofi Jantuah of Ghana. Ouma later lost this title in a unanimous decision defeat against Roman Karmazin.

It was only the second defeat of his career.

Since the Karmazin bout, Ouma has remained active in the Light Middleweight division, earning three wins, two by knockout. On May 6, 2006 Ouma defeated Marco Antonio Rubio by split decision despite being knocked down in the first round.

Ouma first returned in the country in 2007 after being pardoned by the army for deserting.

After years of Ugandan media speculation, ‘The Dream’ like he is known finally walked down the aisle on August 23, 2008, with long-time girlfriend Jalia Nandawula, a practicing nurse and pharmaceutical proprietor in Texas.

The boxer’s wedding came at a time when he and ex-lover, singer Juliana Kanyomozi, were having a rift. (In a highly publicized wedding-to-be, Ouma had promised to make Kanyomozi, also currently performing in the US, his wife in 2007.)

Meanwhile Ouma returned back to victorious ways in 2010, after a series of loses. This was after he, on September 25, 2010, stopped Joey Gilbert in the 6th round of their 10-round bout for the vacant NABA middleweight title at the Grand Siera Resort in Reno, Nevada.

He has since then went on to several boxing bouts.

UCC Bans Uganda Telecoms from Sending Junk SMS

Uganda Telecom

The public’s outcry over continuous phone messages advertising for free call promotions has prompted Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) to ban telecom companies from sending any more unsolicited SMS.

According to UCC Executive Director Godfrey Mutabazi, all the telecom companies should not send any more of these messages until they fully comply with a certain set of guidelines set by the regulatory body.

All the telecom companies have been ordered not to admit new subscriptions for such promotions. The ban will be reviewed only after the service providers comply with the conditions set.

“In a bid to improve the quality of service and the quality of experience that consumers of communications services in Uganda receive, UCC has with immediate effect suspended all new promotions offered by licensed operators with respect to mobile communication services,” read a statement by UCC.

“The move is intended to improve the network connection which is currently congested with free calls promotions,” UCC communications officer Fred Otuunu said.

Mr Isaac Kalembe, the UCC’s Public Relations Officer added that they have drafted guidelines that they have been discussing with telecoms.

This is after, several people started complaining that their money is deducted whenever they receive these junk SMS, and they warned the telecoms but nothing was done.

“So last week, we wrote to them giving them June 6 as a deadline,” Kalembe said.

AfDB Approves $109m To Improve Road Access for Tourism

Uganda Roads

The African Development Bank Group (AfDB) approved a loan of $109 Million to give to Uganda to improve road access to socio-economic facilities and quality of transport service levels in south-western and eastern parts of Uganda.

The money will be used to upgrade the Rukungiri-Kihihi-Ishasha/Kanungu and Bumbobi-Lwakhakha roads from gravel to bitumen standard.

The Board of Directors of AfDB approved the loan to support the realization of the National Development Plan (NDP) and Uganda’s Vision 2040.

AfDB’s director of the Department for Transport and Information and Communication Technologies Amadou Oumarou says the project will improve standards of living of the beneficiaries, support the tourism industry and promote regional integration and cross border trade with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Kenya.

He said this presenting the project to the Bank’s board of directors.

“With this project, the African Development Bank is addressing a pressing demand for the provision of good quality and reliable transport infrastructure needed by Uganda for its socio-economic development and poverty reduction agenda,” said Oumarou.

He added that theexpected project outcomes are reduction in transport costs; increased mobility; improved access to economic and social facilities; provision of clean water to households; and increase in income of women vendors in the roadside markets.

The upgraded roads will also support cross border trade and regional integration by linking western Uganda with Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and eastern Uganda with Kenya at the border of Ishasha and Lwakhakha respectively. The roads will also support the tourism activities at Queen Elizabeth National Park (QENP) and Mount Elgon National Park.

The project conforms to the key development policies of the AfDB and its assistance strategy to Uganda.  It is in line with the AfDB’s 2011-2015 Results Based Country Strategy Paper (CSP) that focuses on infrastructure for development and increased agriculture productivity.

The CSP is closely aligned to the NDP that includes infrastructure as one of the five pillars. This is in line with the Bank’s Ten-Year Strategy (2013-2022), which prioritizes support to infrastructure development as one of the key areas for the AfDB’s future assistance.
