Miss Uganda Talent Night

0

The Miss Uganda academy in a quest to find a new face each year goes around the country not only looking for a Beauty Queen with purpose but also to discover talent. Well, that definitely defines the recently concluded Miss Uganda talent show an episode of the Miss Uganda quest where the beautiful girls are tasked to show case their talents.

Sunday 9th October 2016, wasn’t just another Independence Day evening for the Grand finale contestants of Miss Uganda 2016 edition, as their families and friends were treated to a talent show case at the Deluxe Carnival restaurant in Naguru.

As it has been the case for miss Uganda to have a pinch of glamour, the treat and unique environment at the Carnival brought that out very well.

The show case started off with the Uganda National anthem presented by the contestants something that was really impressive because the young group sung the three verses which many of us Ugandans can hardly do!

CHOICE OF TALENT

The talent show was mostly dominated by performances of different cultural dances as many contestants danced to the rhythm of the Rakaraka, Kadodi, Kiganda and Kitaguluro sounds. However, an additional performance of an urban and foreign dance style was done too, as some contestants chose to perform Salsa and Hip Hop themed dances.

Poetry and drama made it to the list of interest and this was well showcased proving that the contestants are not only Beautiful Queens but are also gifted in composing and performing their craft in drama and poetry.

Aside from the obvious choice of talent, some contestants had unique interests like Television presenting and gymnastics, choices that quite got many people in the audience impressed by the contestants. One reveler was heard commending the choices as creative.

All round, the contestants where very impressive with their performances and as the event closed, the contestants danced as a group and performed to the currently famous song of Sinachi “I know who Iam” as they thanked the revelers for the support.

Miss Uganda 2016 grand finale is set to be on Saturday 15th, October 2016 at the prestigious Kampala Serena hotel at Shs 40,000 for students who will present their ID’s at the ticket purchase points, Shs 70,000 for an ordinary ticket and 2millon shillings for a table.

UPDF Soldier Arrested For Trying to Shoot Traffic Officers

Arrested UPDF Soldier

Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) soldier has been arrested for trying to shoot traffic officers along Masaka road.

Edward Sibo, a lieutenant in UPDF who was not in uniform at the time and driving a small car, was stopped by traffic officers in the Fika Salama [Swahili for “arrive safely”] operation on Masaka Road.

The soldier instead drew a pistol and reportedly threatened to shoot the traffic officers.

A scuffle ensued in which five officers who were donning UNRA jackets overpowered the soldier and disarmed him.

They then arrested, bundled him up and rushed him to police.

He was detained at Central Police Station in Masaka town.

He has been handed over to UPDF for disciplinary action.

Likewise, Fika Salama officers also cornered a one Ali Idagiri who was impersonating a UPDF captain in Luweero district.

Idagiri was arrested together with a one Ondoga Stephen at Luweero Weighbridge and charged in Luweero court for impersonation.

The arrest of Lt Edward Sibo comes at a time UNRA and police are struggling to curb the rampant accidents along Masaka road.

The road has since become the planet’s deadliest highway.

Over 200 people have died on the road since January, calling it a massacre.

That would put the 130-kilometre (80-mile) Kampala-Masaka highway on at least similar ground with its 200 dead in the first eight months of 2016

Three Babies Die as Health Workers Prepare for Kadaga’s Visit

Jinja Referral Hospital

Speaker Rebecca Kadaga addresses the gathering during the launch of Preterm Birth Initiative (PTBi), at Jinja Referral Hospital on Wednesday.

Mr Peter Magoma is struggling to come to terms with the questionable conduct of some health workers at Jinja Referral Hospital who chased away his heavily pregnant wife so that they could prepare spotless wards for the visit of Parliament Speaker Rebecca Kadaga.

Tragically, his wife, Ms Monicah Wokobeire, who was in labour, lost her three babies—triplets. Two of the babies died upon delivery while the third died as it was being rushed to the nearby Nalufenya Children Hospital.
Mr Magoma of Buzaya Sub-county in Kamuli district says he is still shocked by the conduct of some of the maternity ward nurses at Jinja Referral Hospital who preferred to give priority to the visit of the Speaker of Parliament at the expense of saving lives.
Mr Magoma in a mid-week interview said his wife couldn’t save the little ones because they were too much for her to handle on her own.
He said his wife struggled to deliver the babies just adjacent to Jinja Referral Hospital maternity wards where they had come to safely deliver the babies.

The fateful events happened on Wednesday just hours before Ms Kadaga arrived at the referral hospital where she launched the Preterm Birth Initiative (PTBi), an initiative founded on the belief that every child deserves a healthy start, regardless of the circumstances he or she was born into.
The initiative is being championed by the Makerere University School of Public Health in collaboration with the University of California, San Francisco, USA.

Mr Magoma argued that the hospital should have struck a balance between its mandate to save life and public relation exercise that the facility seems to have chosen over saving three young lives.
He said: “My wife was referred here because the health workers at Nawankadulo Health Centre said they couldn’t deal with the delivery of the triplets.”

“Upon our arrival here we were chased away because the nurses are too busy preparing for the visit of Ms Kadaga. And the consequence of that resulted in the death of our babies.”
According to Mr Magoma, two triplets died shortly after being born, following the struggle and condition under which they were delivered while the third who was in bad condition, died while being rushed to Nalufenya Children Hospital.
When Daily Monitorcontacted the Jinja Regional Referral Hospital Director, Ms Sophie Namasopo after the incident, she said she didn’t take notice of the development as she was busy preparing for the visit of the Speaker of Parliament.
Ms Kadaga, who also didn’t take notice of the incident that happened before her arrival, in her remarks said the government should expand the wards where the premature babies are taken care of as the current one is too small and badly lit, let alone being overstretched.

The Minister of Health, Dr Jane Ruth Aceng, said about 226,000 babies are born preterm and 12,500 children under five years die due to the direct preterm complication. Preterm Infants are those born before 37 weeks.
In a speech read on her behalf by Dr Jessica Nsubuga, the Assistant Commissioner for Child Health, she said some of the solution to improve the survival and health of vulnerable preterm and low birth weight babies includes breastfeeding and properly taking care of the umbilical cord.

Uganda Federal Confederates

Why the UFC?

The Odoki Commission established that 65% of the people of Uganda wanted federalism while 10 years later the Ssempebwa report stated 68%. Given this background, it is quite clear that Ugandans believe that a federal political system of government will be fairer for all kingdoms and peoples of Uganda.

We have examined and analyzed the causes of internal wars in Uganda since independence and have concluded that the underlying cause is that one tribe at a certain time has tried to dominate the rest. And having examined the National Resistance Movement Organization policies and their effects on the ground since 1986, it is clear that the current government is mostly promoting or developing the president’s home areas (western region). In other words, nepotism, poverty, sectaranism, autocracy, corruption with impunity, rule by the gun, state sponsored violence, poor public services, unemployment and poor education has triggered the formation of this pressure group. We are realists and believe that any Ugandan president will always try to favour the region where he or she comes from. So our solution to this problem of unfair distribution of wealth is to campaign for a federal political system that will ensure fair distribution of resources. To us politics is simply the distribution of resources and the current government has done a bad job of it that renders it useless.

Who are we and what do we believe in?

We are a non-partisan umbrella pressure group of peace loving organizations and individuals who are actively seeking a democratic Uganda. We hope to bring about a free and fair Uganda for all kingdoms. We are working to bring about the necessary change so as to improve the social, economic and political aspirations of Ugandans. We strongly believe that Uganda can be a peaceful country whereby its leaders can respect the diversity and contribution of its peoples. We believe that our nation’s leaders should promote democracy, be accountable, abide by the law, respect the constitution and work in the interests of the whole nation. Anything below these standards is tantamount to poor leadership and betrayal of our people’s mandate.

Achieving our objectives

Our research has shown that the current regime of the NRMO (National Resistance Movement Organization) invests heavily in public relations and spin that most European or Western governments are unaware of the human rights abuses being committed by state operatives in Uganda. We also realized that some Western governments are aware but turn a blind eye. Therefore our mission is to knock on their doors and make them realize their responsibilities to our citizens. Our grand mission is to lobby intensively for better governance in Uganda as well as exposing the human rights abuses against our people. We will use all the available avenues to inform and empower our people so as to sensitize them politically. We will employ direct non-violent means to achieve our aims and objectives.

We realize the advantages of partnership working. Hence we will work to forge relationships with the different political parties of Uganda and/or any relevant organizations so as to realize our common goals.

Our motto

Our motto is ‘Together we can’. We believe that it is only through working and co-operating together as Ugandans that it will be possible to solve the complex issues we are experiencing as Ugandans. We therefore welcome all members from the indigenous tribes of Uganda to formulate the future of our country and amend or negotiate the terms and conditions of our contract with the state.

Our colours

We have chosen black and white as our colours. As the saying goes ‘as clear as black and white’……we aim to promote transparency. We also thought these colours stand out and people can easily wear them in their daily lives.

Our slogan

‘People say and governments do’ is our slogan. We particularly chose this slogan because our research shows that our people need to be empowered and become more assertive in demanding better governments. So we will do our best to teach them their rights.

Our emblem or sign
Any ideas are welcome

Membership

Any organizations or individuals interested in promoting democracy, good governance and protecting human rights are welcome. However we reserve the right to REFUSE any member or organization that we think does not meet our standards. No one will be accepted to be our member if they have committed atrocities or any human rights abuses unless we are confident that they have served their punishment, reformed and therefore adding value to our organization.

Beti Kamya Has Been Spying on Us for Museveni – Opposition

0
Betty Kamya

KAMPALA, Uganda, Newly appointed Minister for Kampala Ms. Beti Olive Kamya has been President Yoweri Museveni spy agent on the opposition, former Ethics Minister Ms. Maria Matembe has said.

“I used to hear that Kamya was spying for President Museveni but I could defend her. The moment I heard her appointed, I said ‘kumbe’ (so) these things I have been hearing were true. On top of that President Museveni promised to finish the opposition but I would ask If he was going to kill us or swallow us alive. Little did I know he had agents among us,” she said.

Speaking on Nile Broadcasting Corporation ,frontline, talk show on Thursday August 18, 2016, Matembe said she foresee a fight between Kamya and KCCA executive director Jenifer Musisi over supremacy. The show was also attended by Democratic Party president Norbert Mao, Kampala Mayor Elias Lukwago and National Resistance Movement, spokesperson Ofwono Opondo.

Ms. Kamya said she had worked with the opposition but has lost faith in them because they are disorganised.

I have been with Dr. Besigye and Dr. Semwogerere (Kawanga, Democratic Party, former president) but I have now seen things differently and I have grown, Kamya noted.

“I saw election rigging in Forum Democratic Change and left”, she added.

Ms. Matembe quickly interjected, “did you also ever rig?” but Ms Kamya did not reply.

Ms. Kamya praised President Museveni as a visionary leader that reaches to people. “His (President Museveni) methods of work are better than the opposition,” she praised her boss.

Kamya however defended her support for President Museveni as a principled leader who is not hoodwinked anyhow. “President Museveni offered me a ministerial position in 2001, I rejected. He continued three more times until I accepted this time.”

Mao backed Ms. Matembe saying when he invited Ms. Kamya for the recent presidential nomination for Kizza Besigye (Forum for Democratic Change), she did not show up.

“Ms. Kamya said she would not make it but his troops would be there,” Mr. Mao said.

Asked when the friction between Lord Mayor Elias Lukwago and Kampala Capital City Authority management led by Jennifer Musisi would end, Ms. Kamya said, “Soon. We just need to amend the KCCA act.”

Kasiwukira’s Widow Loses Round One in Husband Murder Case

Sarah Nabikolo - Kasiwukira's Widow

The High Court in Kampala has Thursday tasked Sarah Nabikolo Sebunnya, the widow of the late businessman Bugembe Kasiwukira to explain why the latter had become suspicious of her prior to his death.

This followed a ruling in which High Court judge, Justice Wilson Masalu Musene, who is in charge of her case ruled that Nabikolo and two others have a case to answer and thus ordered them to prepare their defense.

The judge said the ruling was premised on testimony that was brought by the prosecution clearly showed that all the accused persons knew something about the murder.

One of Prosecution’s witness, Gayi Bugembe, the brother of the deceased told court that the relationship between Nabikolo and his brother had been affected when the deceased married another wife.

According to the judge’s ruling, such evidence from close family members couldn’t be taken lightly.

Nabikolo’s co-accused include Kasiwukira’s sister in law and a one Sandrah Nakungu.
