The Status of Corona Virus Pandemic in Uganda

Earlier at the briefing, the Minister of Health, Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng established that the country is in control of the spread of the virus. of the 45 confirmed cases in the country;

– 9 cases were intercepted at the Entebbe Airport (these people didn’t get the chance to contact the local Ugandan)
– 23 cases (now +3) tested positive from the institutional quarantine. (less contact with other people who are still in the quarantine)
– 13 cases of Covid-19 patients escaped quarantine and made contact with the locals. Since they interacted with the locals, the Ministry has tried to establish the people contacted before they were confirmed positive. An estimate of over 660 people are being followed up since they are expected to have made contact with the 13 people who tested positive. Dr. Ruth Aceng, these 660 contacts may not be the only ones since they also got into contact with other people. We have to look at the contacts of the contacts,” she said on Friday evening during president Museveni’s address to the nation.

In order to control the spread of the virus, the President of Uganda, Mr. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has advised Ugandans to “observe silence”! Musirike! Let us how the dust settles down after the 14 days of the quarantine.

The government expects that by the end of the 14 days lock down that started on 1st April 2020, most of the people who made contact with the 13 cases that “jumped” the quarantine and got the virus will be established. Museveni said that those who got the virus will show signs of the virus and report to the hospitals that have been set aside to manage Covid-19.

President Museveni has added on that corona virus is not such a big deal and said he is optimistic the country will defeat it.

Fellow Ugandans, lets observe silence within these 14 days. Stay at home. Limit the movements as well as the spread of the virus!
