The Deputy RDC for Kwania District, Jacob Jonga, was apprehended yesterday following allegations of assaulting Gillian Akullu, the RDC of Alebtong, during a meeting at Gulu University Library.

The incident occurred as the Operation Wealth Creation (OWC) gathered RDCs, RCCs, and DRDCs from the Greater North region. Akullu reportedly suffered severe injuries and was left in a near-death state. The altercation was triggered by a dispute over Gen Salim Saleh’s fuel allowance.

On the other hand, the Land Cruiser VX is more luxury than the two and among the three, this should be the least preferred option for travelers not looking for comfort & style. However, its off-road capabilities are amazing as well. In newer models, the Vx offers more luxurious interior, as well as advanced features such as climate control and entertainment systems.

In some cases, I have seen a rooftop tent installed on Nissan Xtrail which smaller than all the earlier mentioned types but I do not have valid evidence on its performance out there in the field that’s why I decided to exclude it in the writing. Meanwhile, the best car type for rooftop camping in Uganda will depend on the specific needs and preferences of the travelers. Factors such as the size of the group, level of comfort required, and budget should be taken into account when choosing a vehicle.

It is however important to choose a car type that is reliable, comfortable, and has the necessary off-road capabilities to handle the rugged terrain of Uganda.

Ojara Mapenduzi Resigns from PAC Committee

Former FDC legislature and the directly elected Member of Parliament for Bardge-Layiba Division Gulu west Ojara Martin Mapenduzi has resigned from his political seat as the chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee-PAC Local Government.

Mapenduzi who contested for the Bardege-Layiba Division seat under an independent ticket, after denouncing and renouncing the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) over mutual misunderstandings in the party.

Upon his election to the Uganda Parliament in May 2021, he was appointed by National Unity Platform as the chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee.

However, in 2022 Mapenduzi worsened relations with the National Unity Platform (NUP) after his official expression of disapproval and criticism to Mityana Municipality Member of Parliament Francis Zaake Butebi.

The National Unity Platform (NUP) spokesperson Joel Ssenyonyi informed the press that the party (NUP) lost trust in Mapenduzi insisting that he had hidden intentions and desires to their party rivals NRM.

Upon his resignation from the PAC Committee, John Baptist Nambeshe the opposition chief whip with immediate efforts declared Gilbert Olanya Kilak South MP as the newly appointed chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee.

Nambeshe has also introduced the newly appointed member before the plenary.

The Chairperson of PAC is responsible for presenting the committee’s findings and recommendations to the Parliament. This includes preparing reports that summarize the committee’s inquiries, investigations, and recommendations for improved financial management and accountability.

Before the Wednesday plenary, the speaker of the parliament Rt. Hon Anita Among confirmed that, “I got a resignation letter from the Chairperson of PAC-Local Government, Hon. Mapenduzi. We acknowledge his resignation and accept it.”

Speaker Anita Among established that she has approved Mapenduzi as the Chairperson of the Committee on Public Service and Local Government, a role that was initially held by Hon. Godfrey Onzima (NRM, Aringa North).

The Opposition Members have raised concerns over the legitimacy of changing committee affiliations in the middle of a parliamentary term.

Kira Municipality Member of Parliament, Hon. Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda accused Mapenduzi of switching sides, alleging that he had transitioned from working with the Opposition to aligning with the government.

Ssemujju Nganda argued that such changes are only permitted in the final year of one’s term, according to the constitution.

“A member cannot be with the Opposition today, tomorrow he is with the NRM. The Constitution says you can only change affiliation after the final year. He was here working with us, now he has been read the other side,” Ssemujju Nganda said.

However, Speaker Anita Among dismissed Ssemujju’s claims and emphasized that Mapenduzi, as an independent MP can work with either side.

Tiktoker Arrested for Claiming Participation in Kasese Massacre

Following the brutal massacre that left thirty-seven (37) students of Lhubiriha Senior Secondary School in Mpondwe town Council Kasese. Alleged information revealed five local citizens murdered by the suspected Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) including 37 students and six (6) abdicated by the extremists.

The mid-night surprised terror in Kasese left majority in tremble, fear and stuck about what was coming nest in their community. Different persons came out condoling and commiserating in grief about the incident that occurred in Kasese.

Among these included the Minister of Education and Sports, Rt. Hon. Janet Kataha Museveni, Felix Kulayigye Military spokesperson among others.

On Tuesday, Ugandan Police arrested a tik-toker named Resto Kalenzi a shop attendant in Namengo village, Lugazi municipality in Buikwe district over the trending video on Tik-tok where Kalenzi declared himself as a member of the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF).

Different people have condemned the circulating video as some insist that convict was looking for vivid likes and following on his Tik-tok page.

The arrested convict was detained at Lugazi Police station custody whereas investigations have heated a full gear said the Hellen Butoto Ssezibwa police spokesperson.

LOP Mpuuga Decries Poor State of Health Services in Mpigi

Uganda’s Leader of Opposition Hon. Mathias Mpuuga Nsamba recently declared a conduct visiting different parts of the country to see whether the budgetary funds passed by the government meet people’s needs.

Opposition leaders often developed alternative policies and present them as alternatives to the government’s agenda. He critically analyzed the government’s policies, legislation, and decisions, highlighting any perceived shortcomings or negative consequences.

Despite worsening relations with the Prime Minister Hon. Nabbanja accusing opposition leader mobilizing official workers protesting and boycotting their works. Among this precedent followed rioting in Buikwe district where doctors expressed their angry towards the government, spending three months with no payment.

The Masaka Mukungwe legislator piled government officials over delaying to deliver social services to the communities and corrupt. He therefore insisted on his work despite Nabbanja’s threatening movements.

Earlier this week on Monday Mpuuga accompanied with his fellow opposition legislators toured Mpigi District of the same motion of justifying factual circulation of tax payers’ money in Mpigi Central.

They furthermore visited different institutions in Mpigi including school sectors and health sectors: Mpigi Healthy Centre IV, Buwama Healthy Centre III, Mpigi Central Market, Wamatovu Seed Senior Secondary School and St. Mugagga S.S in Buwama Town Council.

AFCON Qualifiers: It’s Now the Mathematics for Uganda to Qualify

Uganda Cranes chances of qualifying for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast in now more of a mathematical calculation than just a qualification match of 90 minutes on a football pitch. This was as a result of the Cranes failing to grab critical maximum Africa Cup of Nations qualifications points at “home” off Algeria; losing 2-1 on Sunday. 18th. June. 2023 at the Japoma Stadium, Douala, Cameroon.

The loss to the Desert Foxes now puts the Cranes in a very critical situation that is not only in their hands and also in the hands of their competitors where they have to go for maximum points in the last game against Niger; outscore the West African side with a goal difference of at least three goals and also pray that Tanzania who are second in the group lose to Algeria in the last group games.

The Cranes needed a win against the North African side that would have taken them on same points with Tanzania going into the last games.

The Cranes started on a high but as the game progressed, the 2019 AFCON Champions took over in possession; taking the game to the Cranes and through Mohamed Amoura, they scored two goals; the Cranes’ consolation came through second-half substitute Fahad Bayo.

Algeria pressed the Cranes hard throughout the first half but the goal that the Cranes conceded in the 43rd minute was because of the mistake that goal keeper Salim Magoola did to gift the ball to the opponents in his own half.

After the break, Uganda Cranes Head Coach Milutin Sredojevic made two quick substitutions; going for more attacking option with the introducing of Bayo and Richard Bassangwa for Bobosi Byaruhanga and Milton Karisa respectively.

At 1-0 score, it was a tall order for the Cranes who massively opted to be very offensive but in so doing they ended up opening up the gaps for the visitors who exploited the situation; grabbing another goal in the 67th minute through a very quick transition counter-attack that was finished off by Amoura.

The Cranes tactician made more changes with Isma Mugulusi and Travis Mutyaba coming on in place of Farouk Miya and Emmanuel Okwi respectively but all these could only manage to push for a consolation goal through Bayo in the late stages of the game.

The result cemented Algeria’s 100% record wins; topping the group with 15 points; Tanzania in second on 7 points; Uganda in third on 4 points and Niger at the bottom of the table with only 2 points.

The Cranes will now go into the last game against Niger for a win and pray and hope that the Algerians sweep it 100% in the group with a win over Tanzania.

In the last group game; the Uganda Cranes will be away to Niger in September; and to stand any chance of qualifying, they have to fight and defeat the home team by a margin of three goals and also pray and hope that Algeria also beat Tanzania in Algeria.

Uganda Detains 20 Rebel ‘Collaborators’ After Student Massacre

KAMPALA (Reuters) – Ugandan authorities said on Monday 20 people had been detained for questioning about their possible role in the massacre of 42 people, mostly students, on Friday by the Islamist group Allied Democratic Forces (ADF).

“At least 20 suspected ADF collaborators have been arrested, to assist with our investigations,” the country’s police force said in a statement.

Those detained, police said, included the school’s headteacher.

A group of fighters from the Islamic State-linked rebels stormed the Lhubirira Secondary School in Mpondwe, a town on Uganda’s border with Democratic Republic of Congo, at around 11:30 p.m. on Friday.

They torched one dormitory that housed boys and entered another where girls resided and begun cutting victims using machetes.

Of the 42 killed in the attack, 37 were students.

The student victims included a 12-year-old girl in her first year of secondary school education, according to police.

Seventeen bodies recovered were burnt beyond recognition and DNA tests are being used to identify the bodies, police said.

“All the 17 burnt bodies were male and the burns were distributed all over the bodies, both front and back. One of the victims had an additional gunshot wound,” police said.

ADF was founded in Uganda in the 1990s. For years, the insurgents battled against the government of President Yoweri Museveni from their base in the Rwenzori Mountains which straddle Uganda’s border with Congo.

Eventually, Uganda’s military dislodged it and the group fled into the dense jungles of eastern Congo where they have over the years been blamed for brutal attacks on civilians.

ADF fighters have occasionally carried out attacks inside Uganda, including bombings in Kampala in 2021.
