Woman Kills 9-years old Step son and Buries the Body

0

A merciless hearted woman from Bweyogerere Kigandaazi zone killed a step son and secretly buried the Body.

A one Yvonne Oyo Vena aged 28 is the woman in question who reportedly hit her step son, a 9-years-old Zion Ssendagire with a stool on the head that instantly claimed his life.

According to close sources, Yvonne didn’t hesitate to alarm the neighbors about what she had done but with the assist of a close friend, they rushed the boy to the hospital identified as Gwatiro in Bweyogerere where the doctor declined to offer the two any professional help since Zion had already passed on.

This is where the puzzled Yvonne decided to wrap the body and transported it to her husband’s village in Ziroobwe – Kaleerwe, Luweero District for burial without anyone’s knowledge.

The mother of the deceased, Constance Kisaka was only let to learn about the death of her beloved son when the burrial was already done.

Constance explains that she tried to search for her son every where but failed and all the efforts of contacting her husband and also father to the deceased, Henry Kasirye, fell on a barren ground since he had switched off his known contacts.

“I tried to search very where for my son but failed miserably …. even my husband’s contacts that I previously had were all switched off until when he called me to bury my son….

Constance continues to reveal that she was told that her son had succumbed to Malaria till when Police intervened in the matters and explained every thing that had happened concerning Zion’s death.

“When I asked him what he had died of, he simply told me it was due to severe malaria. I was only able to know the truth when the police came and explained the circumstances surrounding his death.” Zion’s biological mother lamented.

It was also reported that as the burial arrangements were ongoing, announcements were passed on barring anyone from viewing the whole body but only the face.

However, when ASP Karim Magid, the head of Bweyogerere Polic received reliable information about the murder, he intervened his men to follow the suspect to Ziroobwe where they found the burial underway. This is where Police decided to halt it until a postmortem is done.

The postmortem confirmed that the victim was tortured as they discovered serious injuries on the head, nose, stomach, chest and strokes of canes on the entire body. This prompted Police to make a search at Kasirye’s from where they recovered Zion’s clothes stained with blood and the murder weapon, a stool.

Henry Kasirye and his wife, Oyo Vena Yvonne have been arrested and are now under police custody.

10 Lessons to Learn from Fr. Kiibi’s Sermon at Radio’s Requiem Mass

0

GoodLyfe Singer and song writer Mowzey Radio’s requiem mass took place yesterday at Rubaga Cathedral. It was such a sombre state for hundreds of celebrities, fans and family that gathered to seek for the Creator’s forgiveness and to ask him to grant a safe haven for Radio’s Soul.

The mass was led by Rev.Fr Deogatious Kiibi Katerega the curate at the cathedral and he gave a lot of moral classes to the mourners especially the celebrities. Below are some of his key points that we thought you’d want to meditate on and maybe switch your life’s lane.

10. Make use of the age between 30-40!

Fr Katerega advised all the youth to enjoy life but settle down between this age bracket because it’s the only moment they have to save and secure a bright old age future. “It’s a period of seriousness, investment and marriage” he said.
He however sent out a warning to the old between 50-80 who are stuck in their late twenties behavior of sleeping around and having concubines!

9. Don’t let money rule your life!

According to Fr Katerega, Ugandans tend to change after earning more shillings than the others. Don’t be extravagant and don’t spend unnecessarily. Prioritize your needs and don’t treat those who don’t have like trash. He warned artistes who sing for decades only to get bedridden and they can’t help themselves financially. Hence car washing functions and fundraisers are organized to raise money to clear the bills. ‘This should stop’ he cautioned

8. Make as many relationships as possible!

“Did you know that when you die, it’s not your cars, money or buildings that bury you? It’s the people you associated with”
He further praised Radio for making meaningful relationships as evidenced by the masses that turned up for prayers.

7. Spare Time for your family!

He emphasized this as the strongest point of all. He begged celebrities to find time for their families as he posed a question
“maybe if his wife had kept him home that night, he wouldn’t have had the fight in the bar, gotten hospitalized and then died?”

6. Fame/Talent is God-given. Don’t be proud but Use it to make an impact!

To this, the priest reminded the artistes of how much they owe to God for giving them such talents which they are misusing as he said
“Learn to handle life of fame. However rich, everybody’s coffin will be squared and not round. Nobody will be buried on an acre of their land. Even your own children or spouse will not mourn for you forever. There will come a time when they have to move on.”

5. Control your fame, don’t let fame control you!

Father Katerega urged artistes to retain their state of humanity once they become famous. Some artistes feel they are above everyone else and the law because they are famous. They then feel
Untouchable and start stepping on everyone’s head, causing fights, neglecting their responsibilities because they hold a name. This is so disastrous because it’s the same reason as to why Radio is no more!

4. Remember your Creator!

“When they become famous, they stop
going to places of worship until they are brought back lifeless in caskets”
said the priest

3. Respect your bodies!

He was so perturbed by the fact that the youth today spend most of their time boozing, smoking weed and using drugs. He reminded the celebrities of how their bodies are the temples of the Lord that houses their minds and souls.

2. Be Simple!

This he said in reference to ladies who have made Men’s Lives a struggling hell as they fight to earn a lot and live up to the standards of the women they wish to marry.
“Some of you ladies look too expensive. You drive to your rented houses depending on the money you de-tooth from men” he elaborated.

1. REMEMBER, Whatever bad thing you do comes back to you!

He strongly cautioned the mourners to stop
doing wrong to each other! Because whatever we do wrong haunts us down, our lineages and other generations to come. This he said in reference to the Bouncer who fought Moze into coma and later death.

What Has the NRM Achieved So far?

0

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) marked its 32nd Liberation Day on 26th January, at Boma Ground in Arua District. This year’s celebrations ran under the theme, “Uganda’s Liberation, a significant contribution to our present and future development”.

“We have been handling many of the strategic bottlenecks: ideological disorientation, a weak State, emancipating the private sector, the human resource development (education and health), modernizing the infrastructure, integrating the fragmented markets, etc, etc. Hence, we have got a better base than ever before.

We are, therefore, in a position to tackle, step by step, the residual problems and convert Uganda into a middle-income country by 2020 and an upper middle-income country by 2040.

I am a veteran of fighting poverty and working for socio-economic transformation in Uganda. I started this struggle, in earnest, in the Christmas of 1966 in the Butaka area (Rwakitura, Rushere, Naama, etc). That effort succeeded and, since 1995, I have been drawing the attention of the political class to that living example. Like the parable of the sower goes, much of the seeds fell on rocky ground and did not germinate”, said President Museveni.

The Uganda Today revisits NRM 2016-2021 Manifesto to see some of the achievement made. These include:

1. Good Governance, Democracy and Security

With regard to governance, democracy and security, the NRM has made great strides in implementing what was promised years ago. Among them are:

Creating and maintaining the environment in which people have a say in National issues that directly affect them. Professionalizing and equipping both the army and the police to deal with the modern security threats of terrorism. Uganda is now secure and the situation will be maintained under the NRM leadership.

2. Corruption

The NRM is determined to decisively fight corruption. “This is a war that we vow to fight to the end. We will continue pursuing the policy of zero tolerance to corruption through the various legal frameworks and institutions that we have put in place”, reads the manifesto in part. The recently passed Anti-Corruption Amendments Act 2013 that provides for the confiscation of the properties of those convicted of corruption has been implemented to the spirit and letter.

3. Growth and Development

Uganda has registered consistent economic progress in the last two decades averaging 6 per cent per year. As a result, there has been an increase in revenue collection from a paltry sh5b in 1986 to sh9.7 trillion in 2014/15, which has enabled Uganda to finance numerous Government projects.

“We have maintained macro-economic stability and contained inflation within the single-digit bracket.

Building on these achievements, we will work towards increasing the size of the economy and expand our revenue base. To achieve this, we will continue removing bottlenecks that affect doing

business for both large investments and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs)”

“In addition, we will aggressively promote Uganda as an investment and tourist destination.

Furthermore, the NRM recognizes the contribution made by Ugandans living in the diaspora to the economy. We will provide incentives for them to invest at home and also encourage them to participate in technology transfer”, adds the manifesto.

4. Youth and Women

NRM has invested in training the youth to acquire skills required in the job market. Deliberate effort has been made to create an environment that offers opportunities to create jobs for the youth.

NRM Government has continued to fund the youth who are not in formal employment, to enable them create jobs for themselves and also employ others. A special fund has been created for women and gradually increase the coverage of the elderly persons; under the Social Assistance Grant for the Elderly (SAGE). Presently the scheme is being piloted in 35 districts where elderly persons (65 years and above) receive sh25, 000 per month.

5. Agriculture

Agriculture continues to play a key role in the economy by providing raw materials for the rapidly growing agro-processing sub-sector, food and

employing 72 per cent of the population. In order to increase agricultural production and productivity, the NRM Government has assisted farmers to get access to farm inputs particularly livestock, seeds, breeding and planting materials.

NRM has also provided agricultural infrastructure such as roads, agricultural machinery and water for production.

The NRM has also ensured adequate surveillance and control of animal diseases and crop pests.

NRM goal is to transform agriculture from subsistence to commercial farming through the Four-Acre Model, which apportions land use on the basis of activities. The first acre is used to grow cash crops such as coffee and tea, the second is for growing fruits, the third is for pasture for dairy cows and the fourth is set aside for food security at the household level.

Nrm Invested in; Value-addition,Mechanisation of agriculture,Animal breeding and seed production, Promotion of usage of fertilizers and manure, Water for production at individual and communal levels.

6. Education

With regard to education, NRM made tremendous achievements in implementing the election promises made in 2011.

NRM has:

– Sustained UPE and USE programmes.

– Introduced free higher and technical education.

– Introduced the student loan scheme.

– Started a public university in West Nile.

– Rehabilitated and expanded some of the old schools.

– Constructed new technical institutes, schools and teachers’ houses

7. Health

NRM continued with immunization and reproductive health programmes, in addition to taking health services nearer to the people. NRM has rehabilitated several health units, including referral hospitals such as Hoima and Arua. NRM started on rehabilitation of Mulago Hospital and constructed new general hospitals, namely:

– Kiruddu Hospital in Makindye Division

– Kawempe Hospital in Kawempe Division and

– Buliisa Hospital in Buliisa District.

The various referral and general hospitals rehabilitated or newly built will help in decongesting

8. Infrastructure

Emphasis has been put on developing infrastructure

with a view to reducing the cost of production.

Paved (tarmac) roads — These have increased from 3,000km to 4,000km from 2011 to 2015.

Ferry crossings — They have also increased from two to nine, which has contributed to improvement of transport to areas accessed on water. Some of the crossings are shorter detours to some areas, meaning a reduction in travel time. Other projects include; modernizing Port Bell (in Kampala) and Jinja Pier, constructing a new port

at Bukasa and launching six new ferries. All these will go a long way in improving water transport and also opening up new routes. For instance, the modernization of Port Bell and the Jinja

Pier will present the opportunity of passenger and cargo service on water

between Jinja and Kampala.Regarding energy, NRM completed Bujagali hydropower project and several other small ones, which increased the power generation from 300MW to over 850MW. Construction of new power dams at Karuma

(600MW) and Isimba (183MW) on the River Nile was started.NRM extended the national grid power distribution to households from 11 per cent

to 15 per cent and expanded the coverage by over 5,000km. Power generation will increase upon completion of Karuma and Isimba hydropower plants, construction of additional hydropower and geo-thermal stations, invest in transmission and improvement of the distribution network. These

Interventions will not only provide sufficient power for the country, but also bring down the cost of electricity to consumers.

Rhino Poaching Dips Slightly in South Africa

0
African Rhino

South Africa is battling a scourge of rhino poaching fuelled by insatiable demand for their horn in Asia.

Most of the demand emanates from China and Vietnam, where the horn is coveted as a traditional medicine, an aphrodisiac or as a status symbol.

“A total of 1,028 rhino have been poached from January 1, 2017 to December 31, 2017 compared to 1,054 in the same period for 2016 — representing a decrease of 26 animals,” the ministry of environmental affairs said in a statement.

A total of 504 were killed in South Africa’s famed Kruger National Park, a global hotspot for game watchers and safari holidaymakers — a 24 percent drop on 2016.

Some 446 people were arrested for poaching offenses committed in and around the vast park that has traditionally borne the brunt of rhino poaching, the statement added.

The number of rhinos killed has climbed steeply in the past decade from just 13 in 2007 reaching a peak of 1,215 in 2014, according to the TRAFFIC wildlife trade monitoring group.

In the last eight years alone, roughly a quarter of the world population of rhinos has been killed in South Africa, home to 80 percent of the remaining animals.

Rhino horn is composed mainly of keratin, the same substance as in human nails.

It is normally sold in powdered form as a supposed cure for cancer and other diseases.

“The marginally lower total in 2017 still remains unacceptably high and with close to three rhinos illegally killed daily in South Africa… the bottom line is the crisis continues unabated,” said Tom Milliken rhino programme leader at TRAFFIC.

There is Optimism that Uganda’s Economy will Grow in 2018- Analysts

0
Uganda's Economy

Economic Analysts have said that Uganda is showing signs of resurgence in its economy.  They say; 2017 was a difficult year for most African countries, especially after a long dry spell that brought about a decline in the agricultural productivity. It was a challenging financial year as well with prevailing factors having drained the country’s revenues.Regardless of that, the state is bouncing back and would be among the countries in East Africa booking for a place in the competitive market.

The consumer confidence is gradually rising that gives a lifeline to the business environment. With a decrease in the inflation rate as well, it will be a good opportunity for investors to chip in with mega billion projects as the economy looks to stabilize.

Industry activities have risen with their value taking an upturn. Local industries have been strengthened with starting capital and technological support that has given them a cutting edge to improve the productivity level. The availability of raw materials has been an added advantage as they look to seal their mark in the market to enhance growth.

The manufacturing and construction sectors have catapulted the development of the industrial sector as they continue to expand their territories.

Agriculture is shaking off the dust of disappointments with an increased food crop growing. Cash crops such as tea and coffee have improved their yields thanks to better farming practices. The sector hopes for better climatic conditions in comparison to last year’s that greatly cost their livestock as well. Maize and bananas continue to recover as well from a disastrous season.

Services sector as well seem to experience a revival with health, financial and insurance services registering vital improvements.

The health services will affect the mortality rate that will keep the country’s population in check with better hygiene practices. The financial and insurance services will offer a variety of help to businesses to help them achieve their objectives over time.

Neighboring countries, Tanzania and Rwanda, already look to seal great economic growth in the New Year that will be good news to the EAC bloc improving the state of the union.
