A man identified as Imran Byekwaso, 35, strangled his 24-year-old wife, Hellen Naigaga, on Wednesday night. He later took his own life too. The two were residents of Nawambwa village in Nankoma Sub-county, Bugiri district.

The man’s body was found hanging on a mango tree behind his house while that of his wife lay on their marital bed. The motive of the crime has not yet been established.

The locals however pointed out that infidelity must have been the reason.

The village Local Council chairperson, Mr Karim Mukwaya, said the couple recently appeared before the Local Council court where the man accused his wife of having a love affair with a boda boda cyclist in Nankoma Trading Centre.

The couple quarrelled before the court and the man vowed to kill her if he ever caught her with the boda boda rider.

Bugiri District Police Commander Richard Musisi said the two bodies were transferred to Bugiri Hospital for examination. He urged the public to report cases of marital conflict to the police’s Child and Family Protection Unit to minimise domestic violence.
