UPC – East African Community Isolating Tanzania

0

The Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) has accused member states of the East African Community (EAC) for isolating Tanzania in drafting of the EAC federalist constitution.

Addressing a news conference at the party headquarters in UPC party spokesperson Luchima Okello said Tanzania seems to be isolated in this process because Tanzania doesn’t move in a very deliberate and measured pace before they can engage themselves in the issues of the political federation.

“It Rwanda, Uganda and Kenya who are going to draft a federal constitution for the East African Community. This shows a lot of concern because Uganda and Rwanda are terrible democratic deficits. Any serious and legitimate process for the East African Community Federation cannot ignore the misgivings of Tanzania” he said.

Okello added that any East African Community federation constitution drafted by dictators will not be acceptable to all democratic forces in East Africa urging them to draft a constitution that will be meaningful to the original East African.

High Court Dismisses Simcard Case

Ugandan Simcard Case

The High Court dismissed a case filed by activists led by the Uganda Human Rights Network for Journalists (HRNJ-Uganda) and the Legal Brains Trust challenging the national SIM card registration exercise that ends tomorrow. The exercise is under the Regulation of Interception of Communications Act, 2010.

The activists sued Uganda Communications Commission and the government saying the registration exercise, which began in March 2012, was marred by inconsistencies and anomalies which must be addressed.

High Court judge Yasin Nyanzi who dismissed the petition this afternoon said the case had no merit. He said UCC and the telephone service providers had the mandate to register SIM cards. He also faulted the applicants for failing to provide statistical evidence of the would-be aggrieved people should their SIM cards be de-activated.

In the main application before the Court of Appeal, HRNJ argue that no structured and sufficient public consultations, sensitisation and awareness-raising activities were carried out to justify the switching off unregistered SIM Cards on March 1 or any other deadline set without obtaining parliamentary approval.

However, UCC lawyer Paul Kuteesa said the communication body is not in charge of switching off phones, neither do they direct action.

Kadaga Writes to UPDF Over Gen. Sejusa

Hon Rebecca Kadaga

The Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga has written to Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) inquiring to know his status in the army before she can consider extending his leave for more three months.

Hon. Kadaga wants to know whether Sejusa who is in exile in London is still serving in the army. She is thus waiting for a response from UPDF to make a decision regarding Sejusa’s leave request.

However UPDF army spokesperson Lt. Col. Paddy Ankunda last week implied that it would be wrong for the Speaker of Parliament, Ms Rebecca Kadaga, to exercise her free mandate to either extend the general’s leave as requested or refuse it.

“We have heard that he has asked Parliament to extend his leave. We will see if Parliament will allow extension of his leave. In fact, it will be erroneous to extend leave of a person who has already declared to fight a legitimate government,” he said.

The embattled General who is exiled in London recently wrote to the speaker, through his lawyer Joseph Luzige requesting his leave to be extended for more three months.

The army last week outlined likely charges awaiting the former intelligence chief, Gen David Sejusa, suggesting that he is suspected of treasonous activity, an offence punishable by death under Uganda’s laws.

Gen Sejusa ran into trouble with the regime early this year over a letter written to the director general of the Internal Security Organisation, asking him to investigate reports of a plot to assassinate senior government officials (including himself) thought to be opposed to “the Muhoozi Project”.

Alaine Beats Konshens to His Concert

0

Jamaican American reggae singer Alaine Laughton last night beat Konshens to his concert at Lugogo Cricket Oval.

I would call it the strength of a woman but yes Alaine put up an amazing performance better than the ladies’ man Konshens who came to the country on a concert for the second time.
Over 20,000 fans attended the concerts

Lugogo Cricket Oval was full to capacity by 7:30pm, both the VIP and Ordinary sections were packed and with Rabadaba, Vampino, Irene Ntale, Navio, Remah, Chameleone, Yung Mulo among other Ugandan artistes raising the curtains for main artistes.

The Jamaican lady, clad in all black took to the stage at 9:30 pm getting both the guys and girls screaming their lungs out as she sang All or Nothing.

It was after her first song performance that the slim beauty requested to take off her high heels and be able to sing her heart out to Ugandans for whom she’s waited all her life to perform to as she said.

Alaine took to the stage barefooted as she performed hits like Giving It All To You, Keep Lovin You, Make Me Weak, No Ordinary Love, Rise In Love, Spin Mi, You Nuh Ready Fi Me and some Bob Marley for the Rastafarian fans.

Towards the end of her performance Alaine choose from the crowd a random male fan whom she took to the stage, sang to and danced with that made every man wish he was the one up the stage dancing with the sexy Jamaican in front of over 20,000 fans.

Alaine ended her performance with her latest club banger Nakupenda Pia in which she features Kenya’s Wyre that got the whole crowd singing along.

The ladies’ man Konshens then took on to the stage at 10:30 pm clad in a black suit and tie, as ladies screamed on top of their voices. Konshens performed the crowds’ favorites like Gyal Bubble, Do Sum’n, Am Coming, Sidung, Stop sign, Walk and wine, Gal Dem a talk, Rasta, Imposter, Trust No One, Love This Life among others.

Although Konshens equally performed for long, he didn’t so much connect with the crowd like Alaine did, besides the strength of a woman, you would say it’s because it was Alaine’s first time performance here as opposed to Konshens who in less than a year came back in another concert.

In conclusion, if Alaine didn’t tag along Konshens, the concert would have been boring. If you attended, you’ll for sure agree with me!

The concert was organized by Pepsi Uganda.

Kadaga – I Represent Everyone in Parliament not NRM

0
Kadaga Rebecca

The speaker of parliament Rebecca Kadaga has assured government that she represents all members of the house and promised to be a Speaker for everyone when she took her oath.

The speaker of Parliament Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga has warned Prime Minister John Patrick Amama Mbabazi over allegations that he was labeling her as an opposition winger in the house, saying she is not a speaker of the NRM party but a representative of all groups.

“No one should complain when I meet the opposition because I am their Speaker, no one should complain when I meet NRM because I am their Speaker and even the independents,” Ms Kadaga said.

Kadaga, who was speaking at the opening of the house following a recess, noted that Mbabazi had appeared on a radio program two weeks back, on which he is alleged to have said that Kadaga serves in the interest of the opposition.

“On a sad note, I was dismayed by statements from the Prime Minister in the media about my work. Leaders in this country should acknowledge that we consciously took a decision to go multi party and when I took this office I made a promise that I am a Speaker for everyone,” said Kadaga.

“For 12 years that Nsibambi (Apolo) was PM, he never went on radio to talk about the Speaker,” Ms Kadaga said. “We are leaders and we should respect each other because that’s how we will be able to lead this country.”

Mirinda Miss Teen 2016 Search Lights Up Eden International

0

The Mirinda Miss Teen search team was in Mbarara at Eden International School. The team was in search for the finest “Eve” to represent the school at the grand finale in Kampala.

Just like the biblical Garden of Eden, stuffed with choices, the same was Eden International, the Miss Teen Judges had a rough time selecting the best in almost all categories.

“The girls are on point, bright, creative, and beautiful, making a choice here is not an easy task,” said the reigning Miss Uganda who is one of the judges.

Ahabwe Evelyn was voted Mirinda Miss Teen from Eden International and she immediately vowed to use her crown to fight early marriages.

“It’s disheartening, to see a girl of school going age with babies. This girl hasn’t matured enough to take care of herself, how could she manage a family, I am going to fight that with all my energy, “said Ahabwe. Adye Faith was voted Miss Ambitious and Irimbere Vera Claudia was voted Miss Fashionista.

Mirinda Miss Teen is an annual talent contest that aims at showcasing the great talents and characters of today’s teenage girls. The Mirinda Miss Teen Season 5 search, themed Selfie Edition, will have teenage girls battle it out once again for the coveted Miss Teen, Miss Ambitious and Miss Play hard titles at the grand finale in Kampala.

This weekend, the Mirinda Miss teen search team will be in northern Uganda.
