A strong 5.9 magnitude earthquake struck the Albertine valley last night, but there were no immediate reports of causalities or damage.
The undersea quake struck at 08:49pm, and was centered 105 kilometers west of Masindi town in Buliisa. Similar tremors were felt 60Km East-North-East of Bunia Town in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The tremors were also felt across several districts in Uganda and in the southern Sudan.
The US geological survey measured the quake at 10 kilometers under the seafloor.
The Albertine region sits on the ring of fire where continental plates collide, causing seismic activity.
Last night’s quake, the heaviest in about 13 years caused panic among the residents of Buliisa.
Several People ran out of their houses screaming and and braved the heavy down pour that occurred shortly after the tremours.
There are unconfirmed reports that some houses collapsed in Kyenjojo district, while bricklayers in Buseruka sub county- Hoima district registered grave loss after their kilns collapsed.
Fishermen on Lake albert abandoned their boats after strong waves hit the lake.
