Why NUP’s Rubongoya Was Arrested and Jailed Briefly

NewsWhy NUP’s Rubongoya Was Arrested and Jailed Briefly

On Wednesday, National Unity Platform’s David Lewis Rubongoya was briefly arrested and detained at Natete Police post along with his personal driver Agaba Gordon. The two had been arrested on alleged charges of threatening violence on Health Minister Dr Jane Ruth Aceng during the Omoro by-elections.

Rubongoya’s stay in jail was brief. The NUP General Secretary was released on police bond at around 7pm on Wednesday, and he took to his social media to celebrate the release.

NUP Spokesperson Joel Ssenyonyi described the charges pinned against Rubongoya as fake and useless.

According to Ssenyonyi, the charges are aimed at intimidating the opposition and to derail them from pursuing their missions.
