Suspected Suicide Bomber Arrested at Gen Paul Lokech’s Funeral

Joint security forces have arrested Katumba Abdul aka Ben who was allegedly planning an attack on Gen Paul Lokech’s burial ground in Pader District.

According to Brig Flavia Byekwaso, the Uganda People’s Defence Force spokesperson the arrest the suspected suicide bomber followed an intelligence led operation on the afternoon of Thursday 26 August 2021.

“The suspected suicide bomber was arrested by joint security forces at Mikicha Guest House along Canigula Road in Pader Town Council” she said in a statement.

She said the suspect was found with an assortment of home bomb making materials, including; assembled homemade bombs, bomb carrier bags, ball bearings, suicide vests, detonators, wire cutters and mobile phones used to detonate the bombs.

“Investigations so far indicate that the suspect had ionetent of disrupting the funereal processings the later of late Maj Gen Paul Lokech,” Brig Flavia Byekwaso said.

Other accomplices in the heinous crime are still at large but have been positively identified and operations to apprehend them are underway.

Lokech will be buried today Friday 27 August in his home district of Pader.
