    UNRA Closes Pakwach Bridge as West Nile is Cut Off

    The Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) has temporarily closed the Pakwach Bridge. In a statement issued on 3rd December 2019, UNRA has informed the public and road users to and from West Nile that a section of the Pakwach Bridge is closed due to floods that have deposuted substantial amounts of water weeds, water hyacinth and other debris on the road carriageway.

    By the time of the press, the UNRA teams from Gulu and Arua have mobilised equipment to clear the road for traffic use immediately.

    Here is the official statement from UNRA.

    The torrential rains of November – December 2019 have created several disasters and people have been advised against walking, riding or driving across any flooded road section or bridge .

    The public has also been advised to keep away from Riverbanks and steep slopes. Other disasters are;

    (1) A massive landslide in Bushika Subcounty Bududa Disaster 5 people missing, 2 bodies recovered
    (2) River Manafwa bursts bank – several homes downstream washed away
    (3) Sironko town council and several villages flooded, alot of property destroyed
