Kampala Businessman and founder of Kampala International University (KIU) Hajji Hassan Basajjabalaba has congratulated His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for arresting former Inspector General of Police (IGP) general Kale Kayihura,

“I wish to categorically thank you the President for the best decision you took to arrest and remove Kayihura as Inspector General of Police. He had become irrelevant to many Ugandans and failed to handle security in the country,” Bassajjabalaba said.
Basajjabalaba made the remarks at KIU’s 18th graduation ceremony at Kansanga main campus on Saturday where over 2,600 students graduated with degrees and diplomas in different discipline.

Bassajjabalaba noted that ever since the president intervened on the insecurity situation in the country, massive killings and kidnaps have reduced tremendously.
Basajjabalaba an astute tycoon said that many investors had started living the country because of massive killings and failure by police force to contain the rampant killings describing the Kayihura arrest as an assurance by the president that he is serious about people’s security and peace.

He however asked government to quicken the process of signing the bilateral agreements as a way of easing trade between Uganda and other countries to boost business and international relations with other countries because he finds it at times, to hire some professionals from abroad due to the rigorous process.

President Yoweri Museveni officiating as chief guest cautioned higher institutions of learning to always teach courses that are marketable and relevant to society as a way of helping  their graduates find jobs as well as create own jobs as soon as they finish university.
The president noted that very many tertiary institutions and universities teach courses that are irrelevant hence sending half-baked students who can’t compete in job markets thus becoming a problem to society.

“If your graduates are to compete globally for jobs, universities and parents should encourage students to take up courses that produce job makers rather than job seekers, “Museveni cautioned.

He praised Kampala International University for taking a lead in teaching relevant courses in the country and producuing good human resource professionals needed globally.
Over 2410 students attained masters degrees, diplomas and certificates from different disciplines. 1395 (57%) graduands were male and 1015 (43%) were female, 22 students obtained First Class degrees.

KIU Vice Chancellor Dr. Mouhamad Mpezamihigo appealed to the president to reconsider those supporting bright but disadvantaged students by sponsoring them for further studies. He said KIU sponsors needy students from various district on half bursary basis however the number is overwhelming per year calling for partnership.

Mouhammed asked the president to reduce on the taxes and requirements charged to professionals from outside who come into the country to offer services to Ugandans.
He argued that this will help expand the number of professionals in the country as well as get the required doctors in hospitals and other professionals.
