LRA Top Command Reshuffled

NewsLRA Top Command Reshuffled

The Lords Resistance Army command has reshuffled its leadership structure in a move aimed at strengthening the Lords Resistance Movement,- LRA’s political wing.

LRA’s second in command, Vincent Otti, told Uganda Radio Network that some of the rebel commanders would have to abandon their positions in the military leadership to join the political wing.

According to Otti, the Lords Resistance Movement is headed by Joseph Kony with himself as the deputy. He however refused to divulge any other details about the other members.

Critics have argued that the development could be employed by the rebels as an escape route for those indicted by the International Criminal Court from bearing sole responsibility of the atrocities they have committed when prosecution finally starts.

But Otti said the creation of the political wing was a move to fight President Yoweri Museveni’s dictatorial regime.

The rebel leader also emphasized that they would rather face the ICC than opt for a soft landing as indicated by President Yoweri Museveni.

While attending an African business forum in London, the President told reporters that the peace talks are good to give the rebels a soft landing adding that he hoped the rebel Lord’s Resistance Army would opt for the “soft landing” of local justice systems to atone for their crimes rather than face prosecution abroad.
