Shocking Info broke out last week that the Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA) had received a notice of intended application for a licence from two companies intending to construct a dam near the famous Murchison falls in Kiryandongo and Nwoya districts.

According to ERA, the generated power from the proposed hydro station will be sold to the Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited and fed into the National Grid, giving 30 days to directly affected parties to make comments and lodge objections (if any) in respect to the notice.

However, the report left many shocked mostly those in the Tourism Sector and different conservationist.

This prompted a campaign to sign a petition that could see off the ill-idea that could be the world’s Powerful falls and the star attraction of the Murchison Falls National Park being submerged as it has been on the other falls on River Nile including Rippon Falls and Bujagali that was a key Tourist Attraction in the region just like the Murchison.

With just a few hours of this ‘Save Murchison’ campaign started by Conservationist Amos Murungi running on change.org, it has gained over 5,000 signatures.
