DP Calls Ugandans to Mourn Independence

As Ugandans prepare to hold the 54th Independence celebrations on Sunday, October 9, Democratic Party (DP) has appealed to all citizens to use the day to find lasting solutions that will save the country from “servitude.”

The party spokesperson, Kenneth Paul Kakande noted that given the current state of affairs in the country, Ugandans should instead mourn rather than celebrate the independence day.

“Which independence is it were Ugandans are slaves in their own home, where the conditions of living have been made unbearable for the citizens,” noted Kakande on Tuesday at City house.

“Ugandans are running away from their country seeking refuge in foreign countries; ready to offer themselves as slaves.”

“Which independence is it when the ruling class favors only a few close to power against majority of Ugandans who are treated like second class citizens in their own country.”

Kakande noted that Ugandans should be mourning the education system of the country which has deteriorated to the extent that primary seven teachers can’t pass national exams set for their pupils.

“6 Million Ugandans have one meal in the day; those and many more are pertinent questions that we as a country should sit down and chat away forward on such a day.”

Uganda’s independence celebrations this year shall be held in Luuka district under the theme: Protection of our Independence through Promotion of Patriotism, Unity and Hard Work”.
