The singer-cum-politician, Joseph Mayanja – most popular as Jose Chameleone has finally settled the sh137m tax bill and regained back his car, Toyota V8 Land Cruiser model GRJ 200 registration number SSD499B.

It should be remembered that back in April 12th 2020 a certain video went viral when legendary singer Jose Chameleone clashed with URA Officials over claims that the ”Baliwa” hit maker had failed to pay taxes for his new Toyota V8 Land Cruiser that was gifted to him by a South Sudan rich woman.

On that day, officials from the URA intercepted Chameleone on his way to the BBS TV offices (where he had a live performance on Kabaka’s birthday) and asked him to possess the documents for the car which he didn’t have.

Meanwhile, the URA enforcers left the singer to go ahead and finish his scheduled business and the next day ambushed the Kampala Mayor Aspirant’s home to take the car since he had failed to show up its documents for tax payment.

The Anti-Corruption Court has however closed the file in which Chameleone was required to appear in court to answer charges related to sh137m tax evasion.

When the case came up for plea taking, on Monday, the state prosecutor led by Praff Pridah informed the court presided over by Chief Magistrate Pamela Lamunu that the accused person paid the money and he has since repossessed his car.

Your worship I pray the file be closed since the accused has cleared his import tax duty for the vehicle,” she requested. This prompted Lamunu to close the file.

The singer was battling two counts of being in possession of unaccustomed goods and failure to produce documents when required to in line with the East African Community Customs Management Act of 2004.
