Breaking news in Uganda and around the world

A UBL Kind of Kampla City Festival; Tubbaale!

The Sunday that Kampala City Festival happens in Uganda is probably the most colorful you’ve ever seen this country and KCCA did not disappoint this year either! Kampalans and possibly more Ugandans from neighbouring towns flocked Kampala road- Jinja road and other areas of the CBD along the festival route to eat, marvel, stare, ogle and laugh and dance to various fashion styles on show, colorful floats, the beauty of Ugandan women and men and clowns, tunes. So you probably have many stories from the weekend that was.

Well, here’s mine. Uganda Breweries Limited (UBL) was indeed serious when they said “Tubbaale” when on the hot and bright Sunday afternoon, they dished out 8 vans, flat screen TVs, motor bikes, plots of land among other goodies to lucky winners at the Kampala City Festival.

All roads led to National Theatre where the Bell Lager stage was positioned for the 5th edition of the Kampala City Festival. It was a Black, Yellow and Red affair. This year’s event kicked off with rally cars on Saturday and a fun fest on Sunday. The festival saw the grand finale of UBL’s Tubbaale promotion that kick started on July 26 rewarding several people with life changing goodies. But not to worry, brewery still has plenty under their sleeve.

“All I did was buy a Bell. Little did I know that I would win a car.” – Kato Ibra

Kato Ibra one of the Tubbaale van winners said he could not believe his luck. “I am very happy knowing that I have won myself a van. All I did was buy a Bell. Little did I know that I would win a car.” An excited Ibra relayed.

Hitting its 5th year, the biggest street party in East-Africa is a signature brand that draws multitudes to Kampala every October to celebrate culture, innovation, unity and social life.

It’s a highly anticipated moment for revelers to share, learn and network while acting as an economic engine for companies, organizations and small businesses to flourish. Amazing to note was the helicopter that flew over the crowd with gunners waving back at it.

Several renown artists performed such as Chameleon, Bebe Cool, Sheebah Karungi, Irene Ntale, Moze Radio and Weasel, among others and we were glad for this necessary noise. The content of the actual turnup (as is the language in the urban dictionary) have been grossly understated in this post to allow us continue enjoying our lives with as little FOMO and regret as humanly possible!

Until next time, #Tubbaale!
