Lessons to learn from Croatian World cup

0

Although Croatia lost to France at World cup final 2018 final, there is a lot to learn from the Croatian side than what meets the eye.

“Croatia came to this World Cup with only two natural strikers. Mario Mandzukic, the guy who scored the winner in the match against England.

The other was Nikola Kalinic who was on the bench for Croatia’s first game against Nigeria, With five minutes to end that game, coach instructed him to dress up and replace another player.

Kalinic angrily refused to play, in protest of being left on the bench.

He saw himself a top player, and wouldn’t come on for just five minutes. The coach turned to another player Pjaca for the substitution.

After the match, Kalinic refused to apologize, despite appeals from other coaching staff.

The coach then sacked him from the team, and sent him home from Russia. Kalinic flew for holidays, and even posted pictures of himself enjoying elsewhere.

After all, he seemed to imagine, Croatia wouldn’t go anywhere in the tournament. But without him, the team managed to win their matches.

Croatia has achieved their greatest football feat in history, reaching the World Cup final.

The remaining 22 players are national heroes. Their names will forever be inscribed in the annals of the country’s history and in hearts of generations.

Kalinic should have been part but minus him the team beat all odds to reach the finals. All is a result of Minutes of pride and bloated ego.

He must be regretting now. He may have realized his tomfoolery. But it is too late. These stories about life are quite familiar to us, but do we really learn lessons from them? As they profoundly apply to all spheres of life?

Learn to CUT PRIDE. Learn to control anger and DEFLATE EGO and ultimately, learn to say SORRY.

Years of SWEAT & DEDICATION can all be shattered by moments of ANGER and PRIDE.
DON’T BE A KALINIC”

How to Promote Uganda Tourism

0

Uganda is a landlocked country located in the East African region and a member to the five state communities that make up the region. Uganda is bordered by Kenya in the East, Tanzania in the south, Democratic Republic of Congo in the West, Rwanda in the South West and South Sudan in the North.

Strength of Uganda Tourism

It lies within the Nile basin and has a varied climate but generally modified equatorial climate and is endowed with natural beauty. The tourism industry of Uganda is generally nature based, hinged majorly on abundant wildlife found in the 10 national parks, and 13 game reserves both forest and savanna park which give a chance to interact and encounter wildlife, Landscapes, and Birdlife.

Uganda is also blessed with unique water masses like River Nile which is one of Africa’s natural wonders and arguably the world’s longest river, L. Victoria which doubles as the source of River Nile and biggest fresh water body in Africa and Lake Bunyonyi which is believed to be the second deepest lake in Africa.

Uganda has got over 1078 bird species making it a haven for 50 % of Africa’s bird species and an ideal place for birding trips. The country also boasts half of the endangered mountain gorilla population in the whole world, which gives the best of gorilla tracking experience.

State of Uganda Tourism

Tourism is the fastest growing and driving sector in influencing economic growth and is the leading foreign exchange earner for the country, generating US$1.37 billion forex in 2016 up from US$ 1085 million in 2013.

In 2006, Uganda recorded 1.323 million tourist arrivals with an annual growth rate of 9.9% and visitation to national parks grew by 16.3% in 2017 to reach 285,671 tourists.

The Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities remains the implementing body, while Uganda Tourism Board is responsible for promoting and marketing the country’s tourism and Uganda Wildlife Authority is responsible for management of wildlife and all protected areas.

Challenges to Uganda Tourism

Though the tourism industry in Uganda is steadily improving, many forecasts made and expectations from it are very high, the industry is still facing challenges, which include;-

Inadequate funding of the sector: In general, there is limited funding of the tourism sector basically the marketing factor which is of high importance but lowly performed, this is key to attracting more tourists to visit Uganda.

Poaching: This is an illegal act of hunting wild animals in the national parks and game reserves, which ideally leads to their extinction. This is a great setback to Uganda’s tourism.

Shortage of trained and skilled personnel: Most of the employees within the sector don’t have the product knowledge of tourism aspects and they lack skills about how to protect and conserve the wildlife, and actually market the destination.

The overgrowing population within the surroundings of national parks is another threat to the animals since this leads to increased encroachment on the wildlife conservation land.

Unfavorable government policies on the laws that regulate tourism such as taxes; which include hotel tax and many others, the ever-changing dollar rates, improper management, low developed infrastructure and so many others greatly contributed to drop back of Uganda’s tourism sector.

What Should be Done to Promote Tourism

However, to retrieve from the above challenges, increasing funds that are given to the governing authorities such as UWA should be looked at by the government. The government of Uganda and the responsible bodies should re-think and implement the strategies that help to improve on the sector such as product development and marketing strategies.

More emphasis should also be focused on species introduction and re-introduction to areas where they have never been and those that got extinct for example, re-introducing rhinos in Kidepo valley national park. This will improve the attractiveness of the parks to travelers seeking Uganda safaris in the remote wild areas of the country.

Construction of more international airports near the various national park so as  to beat the spatial time taken by travelers to reach far destinations such as Bwindi Impenetrable and Kidepo valley national parks.

Infrastructure development, notably the tourism roads that link to key destinations. These roads tend to become almost impassable, especially during rainy seasons, and so improving them can provide the easiest way to access these destinations.

Travel Guide to Bwindi National Park

0

Located in south-western Uganda, high on the edge of the western Rift Valley on the highest block of the Rukiga Highlands, flanked by the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo and adjacent to the Parc National des Virunga, this is one of the largest (331 sq. km) natural forests in Africa. Because of its range and size, and because it includes both montane and lowland forests, the species diversity is extremely high. A large number of plants and animals are endemic to the region.

Half the world’s population of mountain gorillas are found in Bwindi National Park, the remainder roaming between Zaire, Rwanda and Uganda in the Virunga Conservation area. Vegetation is typical tropical rainforest with very dense undergrowth. There are 163 species of trees, 346 species of birds, 202 species of butterflies and a wide range of reptiles. There are also 120 species of mammals, making it one of the richest ecosystems in Africa. A small number of mountain elephants will be found in the southeast region around the Mubwindo Swamp.

The park is surrounded by some of the most densely populated areas of Uganda, with the main ethnic groups being the Bakiga and the Bafumbira.

Activities in the Park

Mountain gorilla tracking is the main tourist attraction. There are two habituated groups of gorillas, and viewing is strictly controlled to ensure the sustainability of the primates. Strict rules must be followed to prevent behavioral disturbances and the transmission of diseases from humans to the gorillas. (Even a common cold can be fatal to the primates). Only six visitors are allowed in at any one time a day per habituated group, and details can be obtained from the park headquarters or any Ugandan tour operator.

The rugged terrain makes trekking gorillas strenuous work. The exercise involves walking through thick forest up steep and slippery slopes, to where the gorillas were found the previous day. Trackers then look for any signs – pressed down grass, broken twigs, dung – that might tell them the direction the group has taken. With visitors following through the dense undergrowth, the search continues, at times literally crawling through the thickets, until the gorillas are found. Mountain gorillas cover long distances each day and so tours can last anywhere between three to nine hours.

There are a number of other hiking trails in the park and guides should be arranged in advance. The area around Buhoma is an excellent place for watching many different primates and birds, (and is famous for its tumbling waterfalls).

Basajjabalaba Says Kayihura had Become Irrelevant

0

Kampala Businessman and founder of Kampala International University (KIU) Hajji Hassan Basajjabalaba has congratulated His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for arresting former Inspector General of Police (IGP) general Kale Kayihura,

“I wish to categorically thank you the President for the best decision you took to arrest and remove Kayihura as Inspector General of Police. He had become irrelevant to many Ugandans and failed to handle security in the country,” Bassajjabalaba said.
Basajjabalaba made the remarks at KIU’s 18th graduation ceremony at Kansanga main campus on Saturday where over 2,600 students graduated with degrees and diplomas in different discipline.

Bassajjabalaba noted that ever since the president intervened on the insecurity situation in the country, massive killings and kidnaps have reduced tremendously.
Basajjabalaba an astute tycoon said that many investors had started living the country because of massive killings and failure by police force to contain the rampant killings describing the Kayihura arrest as an assurance by the president that he is serious about people’s security and peace.

He however asked government to quicken the process of signing the bilateral agreements as a way of easing trade between Uganda and other countries to boost business and international relations with other countries because he finds it at times, to hire some professionals from abroad due to the rigorous process.

President Yoweri Museveni officiating as chief guest cautioned higher institutions of learning to always teach courses that are marketable and relevant to society as a way of helping  their graduates find jobs as well as create own jobs as soon as they finish university.
The president noted that very many tertiary institutions and universities teach courses that are irrelevant hence sending half-baked students who can’t compete in job markets thus becoming a problem to society.

“If your graduates are to compete globally for jobs, universities and parents should encourage students to take up courses that produce job makers rather than job seekers, “Museveni cautioned.

He praised Kampala International University for taking a lead in teaching relevant courses in the country and producuing good human resource professionals needed globally.
Over 2410 students attained masters degrees, diplomas and certificates from different disciplines. 1395 (57%) graduands were male and 1015 (43%) were female, 22 students obtained First Class degrees.

KIU Vice Chancellor Dr. Mouhamad Mpezamihigo appealed to the president to reconsider those supporting bright but disadvantaged students by sponsoring them for further studies. He said KIU sponsors needy students from various district on half bursary basis however the number is overwhelming per year calling for partnership.

Mouhammed asked the president to reduce on the taxes and requirements charged to professionals from outside who come into the country to offer services to Ugandans.
He argued that this will help expand the number of professionals in the country as well as get the required doctors in hospitals and other professionals.

“You have a big body but empty brains”- Apass Attacks Bebe Cool

0

The ever controversial A pass is at it again as he hits left right and centre to make his message reach. Its him again vs Bebe cool perhaps.

After the latter branded the protest against the social media and mobile money tax as irrelevant and its participants a nuisance, the didadada singer decides to hit back at the Gagamel chief when he labels the self titled Big size as big in body but small in brain in a cryptic post. He didn’t mention names buy hey the Ugandan Facebook world just knew this had been directed at Bebe Cool. Apass posted, “It’s not okay to carry a big body and have an empty brain. It’s not okay”. This was after Bebe Cool made a lengthy post saying social media is a luxury and calling on the artists who opposed the social media tax “opportunists”. Here is a lengthy post from Bebe Cool that has got him roasted once again on Social Media.

MY OPINION
My name being Musa/Moses I agree with the fate that true prophets are never accepted in their communities in their times. That is why i worry less about insults that come from those who don’t take time to read, digest and so can’t understand what i say.
Fortunately am not seeking for your votes which gives me the luxury of being able to tell you the bitter truth as it is.
Do we Ugandans know the difference between luxuries and necessities? A luxury is something expensive that is pleasant to have but you can live without it. And a necessity is something you can’t avoid or leave without.
Alcohol, gambling, social media, clubbing, etc are luxuries.
Food, water, health/medical care, education, shelter, electricity, roads, etc are necessities.
Social media was introuduced in Uganda less than 10 years ago but people and businesses existed and excelled before it was introduced. Upto now, 90% of the business todate succeed without social media in Uganda. As a matter of fact, developed economies like China banned social media and is only limited to a 17- square mile free trade zone in Shanghai and only to make foreign investors feel more at home.
Of the above, what would a good leader advise his people to choose?
Be genuine to yourself, for the period you have spent using social media, which financial gain have you received? A job, business idea, marriage partner, business contact OR nudity, jokes, lugambo, distruction of marriages, slaying the queen, immorality? I am almost certain that the few of you who have gained the former have little or no problem paying a mere 200/= for something useful.
If you are the majority that gain nothing useful or sensible on social media, why continue spending money on it. Leave alone the 200/= but the tens of thousands of shillings on data. Banange twebalemu.
Secondly, can we Ugandans start defferianting between assets and liabilities. For anyone to succeed in life, you should know that anything that you spend on without gaining is a liability and anything that brings in money to you is an asset. Today some of you would rather die for a liability than concentrating on acquiring assets. Some of you would rather spend your money on building a house that you just sleep in, instead of spending on a house that would fetch you money in form of rent. All this because mwagala ku slayinga queen babawaane. And you are proud of this. Mbewunya.
Do we as Ugandans know the debt portfolio of our country? Wouldn’t you as a Ugandan want us to be in a better position to take care of our business as a country? Be self reliant enough to concentrate on the priority needs of us as a people instead of labouring merely to pay back debts after debts.
For example would you rather continue discussing
1. how we got the debts
2. Who got us to the debts
3. Who stole money?
4. Who misused the money
5. Whose responsibility it is to pay back these debts
OR
1. Start on a solution to recover Uganda from the debts, suggest all ways to generate the money needed without putting the strain on just a few people i.e increasing the tax base, by this here trying to generate revenue from all luxurious activities like alcohol, gambling, smoking, social media, etc
2. Prosecuting all those that stole/steal, misuse our taxes and selling off their properties to fully recover what they stole from us.
3. Creating a platform for dialogue between we Ugandans and the ruling government through which a permanent solution can be achieved.

Bebe Cool Compares A pass to a Goat

0

Bebe Cool and Apass woes are never ending. Bebe Cool has compared Apass to a Goat at the Royal Ascot Goat Race in Munyonyo! “This goat sings and looks like Apass” Bebe Cool said.

#He didn’t take it lightly and now Bebe Cool strikes back at A pass for branding him a big body and no brained? A real empty brain in a social media post. Now the “Batiddemu” star at the Royal Ascot Goat Race grand opening press conference in Munyonyo compares a goat he had bud a stake for to A pass. From saying the colours of the goat’s hair matched A pass’s hair to saying it exactly sung like the didadada star when you touched it.

“This goat sings like A Pass, when you touch it. It makes Didadada sounds. It also has a hairstyle like Apass’ he said. There has got to be a reply from the other side and it is coming up pretty soon.

OTT Tax Opposers Are Seeking Cheap Fame – Bebe Cool

0

“OTT tax is not bad! Those opposing it are seeking cheap fame. Bebe Cool  has spoken out on new taxes
In an interview on BBS TV the “batiddemu” star made his minds known on the increased excise duty levied on Social media and nobile money users. Below is his statement.

The taxes are not a problem, but the amount taxed, allocation and protection of the money is the issue to discuss. If the public and government negotiate on the amount and the money is not embezzled by greedy officials then taxing has no problem. Before you say a tax is bad first know the state in which the country is. The country is in huge debts. We need this money to settle the debts provided it’s not embezzled.

Why did the MPs keep quiet while the law was passed. Why didn’t they at least break microphone stands in parliament to show their unsatisfaction? Let them not count us fools now.

He went on to say that Am so ashamed by the artists who don’t want to pay tax yet they are earning. They use social media to make money but don’t want to be taxed yet other people’s businesses are being taxed. They received money on phones directly when booked and it’s not taxed (PAYEE).

The president said the tax was over rated and called for a review into the percentage from 1% to 0.5% before anyone staged a strike soo the strike was just a stunt to seek cheap popularity for it had no effect at all. Individuals should oppose with solutions not just being negative. If the tax has been brought to solve the financial crisis in which the country is, oppose it with an alternative solution not merely opposing but the problem is that the ones opposing have no solutions.
