KIU Titans 71-55 Pemba Warriors

KIU Titans put up an outstanding performance past Pemba Warriors in a 71-55 victory at the MTN Indoor Arena in Lugogo.

Falling 76-72 in the first game of the series, the star-studded Titans side managed to come back in a determined manner to level one all in the best of 5 series.

It was a tight contest at the start ending 17-18 in Warriors’ favour after the first quarter, but it was in the second quarter where Ronnie Mutebi’s side went into a deep slumber, managing just one basket (2 points).

“We played as a team today,” started Brian Wathum who recently replaced Hamza Nyambongo as KIU Titans coach.

“We took out their big players who destroyed us in game one and played like it was our game 7.”

Sudi Ulanga led the Kansanga based side with 17 points; Chris Omanye added 13 with Denis Balungu and Michael Bwanga posting 10 points each.

Mark Opiyo and Michael Buzangu scored 12 and 11 points in a losing effort for the Kyambogo based side.

Speaking to ChimpReports, Warriors Coach Ronnie Mutebi, who looked completely hard-done, said: “It was a mentally tough encounter as we failed to step up.”

Adding, “Titans had their ball movement and shooting on point, but I must also admit that our big players ran away from the team’s structure and that was our downfall.”

Both sides will return on court this Wednesday in game three at YMCA outdoor court in Wandegeya.

“We will go to the drawing board and strategise so as we take this series,” said Coach Mutebi.
