Police FC Unveils Midfielder Gift Ali

After weeks of speculation, Uganda Police Football club has finally acquired and unveiled midfielder Gift Ali from Proline.

Touted to be one of the most gifted midfielders back in the day, Gift Ali popularly known as “Gigi” did not leave up to the expectations.

His progress was mainly hindered because of recurring injuries that saw him miss out of several opportunities including playing abroad.

There is no doubt that Gift Ali is a talented player and one of the most creative midfielders in the country at the moment.

A product of the Kampala Kids League (KKL), Gift Ali promised a lot at a tender age.

On Friday, the crafty midfielder switched allegiance moving from Proline FC to Police FC on a two year deal.

While unveiling Ali at his office in Naguru, AIGP Asan Kasigye indicated they have gotten a great and talented player that will help in bolstering their squad.

“He is a good addition. Gift Ali is a midfielder with a lot of abilities, very creative and his recruitment to Police FC will help in making our squad stronger,” he said.

Born on May 13, 1993, Gift Ali still holds the record for the youngest player to captain a top tier club in Uganda.

He achieved the fete while playing for Arua Central FC in 2009 at the age of 16. At the time, he was also a student at Old Kampala SS.

Gift went on to also captain the U20 team in 2012. He joined Proline in 2010 and has gone on to feature for the club since then.

The midfielder said he was delighted about the move and indicated he will work hard to fulfill the team’s targets.

“I’m happy about joining a great team Police FC. They have put a lot of trust in me I promise I will endeavor to repay the faith and help the team attain its targets,” Ali stated.

The midfielder joins the list of players that the 2005 league winners have signed ahead of the 2017/18 season.

These include: Juma Balinya (Lweza FC), Tamale Simon (Lungujja), Aggrey Madoi (Vipers), Stephen Mugisha (Hope Doves), Sam Kayongo (Kiira United), Mugisa Albert (Ndejje University), Norman Ogik (Sadolin Paints), Basan Saafi (Sadolin Paints) and Shakur Makera (Nkumba University).

The cops languished in the drop zone for the better part of last season and have made several signings to avoid the predicament this season.

At Police FC, Ali re-unites with his former coach at Proline FC, Abdallah Mubiru.
