Uganda Revenue Authority Football Club (URA FC) have booked a berth into this year’s final of the Mapinduzi Cup after piping Tanzanian giants Yanga Africans FC.
The tax collectors edged Yanga in a tense penalty shootout at Amaan stadium in Zanzibar in the semifinals of the 2018 Mapinduzi cup.
Normal time had ended goalless in a closely contested encounter but Uganda’s representatives held their nerves to win the shootout 5-4.
Goalkeeper Nafian Alionzi saved Juma Said Makapu’s penalty while URA FC had all their players convert.
Paul Mbowa, Ibrahim Kibumba, Jimmy Kuluba, Shafik Kagimu and Brian Majwega were able to score from the spot for URA FC.
URA FC will now take on either Azam FC or Singinda FC who play the second semifinal that is currently underway.
URA FC topped group A with ten points, managing three wins and a draw to qualify for the finals.
The tax collectors under the guidance of new coach Paul Nkata are seeking to win the title for the second time after winning it in 2016.
