Court Dismisses Injunction For Staying Sim Card Registration

High court has dismissed an application filed by Norman Tumuhimbise of the Jobless Brotherhood and Trumpet Uganda Limited, seeking an injunction to stay the cut off of unregistered sim cards until determination of the main case that challenges the move.

In his ruling, the head of civil division of High Court, Justice Stephen Musota said he could not entertain an application that was over taken by events, considering that government gave citizens 30 more days to complete the registration which the applicants wanted.

He further ordered the applicant and UCC, which is the respondent to submit in their written submissions and by 8th June court will set judgement date for the main application that challenges the sim card registration exercise using only National Identity Cards for all Ugandans

Speaking to journalists, the Uganda Communication Commission lawyer Usaama Sebuwufu advised people to make sure they register their sim cards before tomorrow midnight, saying that they are ready to deactivate all those that will not have.

The applicant’s counsel Eron Kiiza expressed discontent towards this decision vowing to forward this matter to the Principle Judge.

“It’s not fair for a judge to set a hearing date of the matter and he  appears in court only to dismiss the matter”
