SAHARAH APP: If You Can’t Handle The Truth, You Should Forget About Using the App

Sarahah mobile application has become the talk all over social media, be it on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or SnapChat, you name it – everyone is talking about the app.

The anonymous-commentary app which was means ‘Honesty’ was introduced by a Saudi Arabian developer; Zain al-Abidin Tawfiq and launched early this year in February allowing users to submit honest comments, questions, and critiques to their peers anonymously.

According to the developer of the application, he says the app helps users in discovering their strengths and areas for improvement by receiving honest feedback from their employees, friends, and Coworkers in a private manner.

The app has so far gone viral growing at a faster rate, and now being browsed in the “top downloads” charts in more than 30 countries via Apple’s App Store with 10 million downloads in just two months and also relatively trending on Google’s Play Store – now recording a total of over 300 million users.

Media reports claim that the app has become popular or rather went viral because it panders to the narcissist within us.

In general, the app allows a user to get the direct feedback from the world. It could be great, bad, nice, or even really nasty messages. So if you really can’t handle all this, you better not think of downloading the app……

How the app works:
The App idea is very simple – First of all create your Sarahah profile, which anyone can visit. Even without logging in, people can visit your profile and leave messages, anonymously (but you can’t or in whatever case reply to them). If they have logged in, then messages are still Private (anonymous by default), but users can choose to tag their identity if they wanted.

On the receivers app, all the incoming messages show up in an inbox, and you can flag, delete, report, or like them.

  1. Open the Saharah website or app (available for Android and iOS).
  2. If you want to send feedback to anyone, use the search results and select the person whom you want to send feedback to.
  3. Write your feedback and then afterwards, send.
  4. To check all your feedbacks, you then need to login to your Sarahah Account.
  5. Go to the messages tab to display/show all you messages.

However, much people are liking the app, many are finding it as a do-a-way thing. In other words, who needs this app. Some reports claim that a bunch of people are using the app as a tool for rampant cyber-bullying considering the fact that people have the freedom to send anonymous messages.

“Any messaging app or social media app that markets itself as being a place to post anonymous messages or posts will lend itself to anonymous bullying,” cyber safety expert Leonie Smith said.

Editor’s Note: The app can be very helpful if used in a good manner. In a way it can help one change or improve on their behaviors or personality. However, since its all about privacy and anonymity, it’s only a matter of time before someone hacks the app and exposes people who leave negative comments about others.
