UPDF Implicated in Land Grabbing in West Nile

The Uganda Peoples Defence Forces has been implicated in land grabbing in the West Nile sub-region.

The commission probing land management and land acquisition on Wednesday heard that highly-connected racket of officials in the UPDF are taking land illegally.

The Alur and janam plans of West Nile have for long conflicted overland with a solution seemingly nowhere in sight, the situation is further aggravated by land grabbing allegedly  by influential figures in the army

According to the Jonam Clan Representative Pascal Okello, these are not malicious or rebels, but they are people who are in the government, UPDF highly placed individuals.

This revelation came to light during a hearing of the commission of inquiry into land management and Acquisition.

Also before the committee was the chair person Bunyoro Land Bouard, Aryeri Yestus who pointed an accusing finger at politicians whom he claims are an impediment to land acquisition in the sub region. Aryeri was hesitant to reveal names.

The land question in Bunyoro remains unsolved with the discovery of oil in the Albertine region.

Previously all witnesses have come before the commission. Representatives from different cultural institutions have come before the commission today.
