Kawempe Murder: Couple Arrested, Detained

By Stuart Yiga

Police in Kawempe is holding a couple in connections to the murder of Jenifer Namuwonge, 20, a resident of Katoogo Zone in Bwaise Parish.

The Kampala Metropolitan Police Mouth piece-Emilian Kayima identified the suspects as; Jonathan Mazukun and his wife Justine Mpamurungi.

Police say that when they placed their sniffer dog at the scene of crime, it led them to the two people which prompted them to arrest them as first suspects.

Kayima however adds that their detectives are also following some other leads that may also be of help in their investigations in connection to the same incident; adding that members of the public should also source for them more information that would be deemed important in their work.

In a space of one month, over 20 women have been brutally murdered especially in areas of Nansana Municipality and in Katabi-in Entebbe. Intelligence information so far obtained by security indicate that some of these tragic incidents are likely to be politically motivated with intent to inflict fear among the women who happen to be the number one supporters of the ruling regime.

Meanwhile, Police is concern that the ongoing cases of murder, defilement and raping of women are as a result of the increasing number of youths who have become more addicted to drugs especially those who smoke marijuana.

In an interview with the Red pepper, the KMP Police Mouth piece-Emilian Kayima called upon the members of the public to become more vigilant so that they report whoever deals in illicit drugs as a way of keeping their areas free from criminals.

On the other hand, Kayima ruled out poison in the sudden death of the MTN Service centre employee, Viola Nassozi, who collapsed and died on spot inside her office on Wednesdayevening.

“Immediately after her death, we rushed her body to Mulago but rumors started circulating that she had been poisoned but reports so far obtained by us from Mulago hospital mortuary  clearly attributes the deceased’s death to brain tumor complications,” he said.
