Weatherhead prepares for African Hockey championship

As the African Cup club Hockey championships (ACCH) scheduled to take place in Nairobi early in January comes closer, the already qualified Weatherhead Hockey Club has started intensive preparations for the tournament.

The former runners up of the national hockey league and currently in the second position will join Wananchi club, the former league champions to represent the country at the international level.

Each country is supposed to be represented by two clubs at the tournament; the league champions and the runners up in both ladies and men’s category.

Speaking at press conference on Friday where Basco paints boosted the club with shs2.6m cash, the chairperson of Weatherhead club Jackie Namyalo believes that the club must compete in the championship despite inadequate finances.

“We have a budget of sh50m and I believe by the time January comes, the club will have covered at least 85%,”Namyalo said.

She also explained that the club currently has shs10m cash out of the above mentioned proposed budget of which it is supposed to facilitate the players, coaches and some officials in the event that will take about 7 days.
